Worlds most powerfull countrys ?

Just wondering who YOU place in your top 5 powerfull countrys

I know its pritty obvious but im just curious to what your opinions are

mine would be the standard that i think most people would choose

USA
China
Korea
Japan
Russia

I would love to say england aswell as thats where im from but our government and priminster sucks so much balls plus the fact that compared to many countrys we are fairly small.

Also another point is when usa claimed thier independance from GB, well GB must of been fairly powerfull to not let usa have their own independance, what happened to our power ?

China is far ahead of the US, and soon they will be the #1 world Super power for sure.

 

I wouldn't give Japan and Russia that much credit to be in the top 5, their economy and world influence has only been declining drastically in the last 2 decades.

 

True that. Though you do need to take in the fact that the USA spends more money on military than any other country in the world. Yeah, China may have a lot more people they could put in their army and more advanced technology, but they wouldn't theoretically have the same level of military fire power as the USA. Just my opinion, and yeah I barely know what I'm talking about, this is made from assumptions.

China and the US can both nuke each other.

 

In technology, Japan is #1, USA at #2.

In money/economy now, it is USA, but their debt is so high, higher than what they can afford to give back.

In stable money/economy, and spare money, it is China, they lend too much money, I think they should keep it in their country..

In the future China will beat Japan on technology if it's economical wealth does not stop. North Korea is angry and wanting to have a war with South Korea, and China's trying to persuade them not to, because they're allies, and war = lose money = future might be worse.

 

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't this about the most powerful countries, not the most economic?
I agree, America is in a debt they will never ever be able to repay.
However that doesn't mean that they do not have power.

 

I know that the USA is bankrupt, but thats beside the point.
The point is who is the most powerful country, not the richest.

If a nation in surplus > a nation that is bankrupt in terms of power, then Nepal is more powerful than the USA? Gabon maybe?

 

Any nation that's in the UN is amongst the most powerful, if not because of their country's accompliments, then because of their allies.

In your scenario it is not wrong to say that Greg is more powerful, I would say that.

However you've left some variables out in your hypothetical.
Tom has a Nuclear bomb at his disposal, and is able to keep borrowing money on credit to purchase even more Nuclear bombs.
Greg has a gun.

I do admit, there is a small/moderate positive correlation between money and power.

However if your going to say that being bankrupt in terms of a nation means you are less powerful than nations that are not bankrupt, then I disagree.
As I said Gabon is in surplus, the USA is not; which is more powerful?

However this does not change the fact that as of now. The USA is powerful enough to at least warrant a position in the Top 5. There is a reason that I personally ranked it under China, which is because of it's national debt.
