    Questions.

Hey, so I know a lot of the members in this community are avid atheists. Religion has always been a topic of great interest to me but I find myself still rather lacking in knowledge of it. So, I'd like to use this thread to post questions I have in regards to atheism.

    1) If there is no God, how was everything created?

    2) What reason is there to do right?

    3) What defines right and wrong? I believe moral standards were sort of developed using both a combination of society's views and religion...

More to come, but these are the ones that stand out in my mind.

    Questions.

    1) If there is no God, how was everything created?
I personally believe in "The big bang", because it's got evidence to back it up.
    2) What reason is there to do right?
Everyone can interpret this how they want, it's up to you and your own motives and what you want out of life.
    3) What defines right and wrong? I believe moral standards were sort of developed using both a combination of society's views and religion...
Although religion does encourage Morals, so do other things, such as Law. Everyone can decide on their own what's right and wrong.

    Questions.

    1. If there is a God, how was he created? Moreover, why do you need to know?

2 + 3. The concepts of right and wrong are human products, as is religion, morals, and ethics.

    Questions.

Why do you assume things have to be created in order to exist?

Try doing wrong and you will see.

Objective morality. See universally preferable behaviour ( http://freedomainradio.com/FreeBooks/UniversallyPreferableBehaviourEthics.aspx ) for one example.

If you're interested then research it yourself...

    Questions.

    1) If there is no God, how was everything created?
No-one will ever know. I, however, believe that religion is impossible.

    2) What reason is there to do right?
To conform and to give yourself a good sense of achievement and of being a nice person. Also, generally doing wrong can often yield punishment or exclusion which people fear.

    3) What defines right and wrong?
Your society's views which you believe yourself, due to conformity.

    Questions.

Name something that exists and never was created.

Well, someone can just close this. All I'm getting is sardonic and ignorant answers. I just wanted to get you're guys' opinion; but instead your answers were simply questions (it's not a prove me otherwise issue, it is your opinion) or circulatory reasoning answers.

As for Kohlberg's stages of moral development, I am inclined to give you a middle finger salute. I see right and wrong, but why should I do right and not wrong? If I can go out and kill a few people and do nothing more than a prison sentence for it, especially considering that many US prisons have far less deplorable conditions than many of the impoverished, who cares? I would say an eternity spent being licked by the flames of hell gives me a far greater reason not to kill a few people..

Second thought, please keep this going. I just want answers. If you're going to post stupid shit or answer my questions with questions then kindly stick to a read only policy. I'm kind of hoping Deacon Frost will hop on the boat.

    Questions.

    1) If there is no God, how was everything created?

i believe in the oscillating big bang theory.

    2) What reason is there to do right?

there are reasons to act in a manner that is ruled by self-preservation.
if you do not conform you will be shunned by society and have less chances at fulfilling your biological goal, spreading your seed.

    3) What defines right and wrong? I believe moral standards were sort of developed using both a combination of society's views and religion.

right and wrong have always been wayyyyyy too subjective for me. I try to instead view the world using ,instead of right and wrong, unhealthy and healthy as organizational categories. its simple, dont do something if it is unhealthy for you/your relative/your community because it will lead to the natural detriments.

    Questions.

Many crimes are done for self-preservation, so why are they crimes? I'd contest that even wrong-doers can get laid.

Things Can also be healthy for you, yet unhealthy for those around you.

you just changed the topic from morality and right and wrong to the judicial system. say on topic dude.

    no duh.

this is what would separate people. selfish people do what is good for themselves and, therefore, become shunned by society as a consequence.

It created EVERYTHING? What was there before it, and how did those things formulate? Has there been "big bangs" before that, will there be more?

    Questions.

    go look what oscillating means.

it is actually illogical to believe that everything was created.

conservation of mass tells us this.

why couldn't it just always have been in this constant state of change?

    Questions.

Conservation of mass says matter can't be created.. So let's theorize and say that your two rocks collide and make another world. Where does the plant, animal, and human life come from? With all of the exactness in our lives and in the biosphere, I find it hard to believe a few rocks could do that.

Plus, we have no evidence the universe is expanding and certainly none saying it's contracting. We've had the technology to even begin the studying for this for under a century. Even if we could see the edge of the universe and its expansion, there would be no noticeable expansion in the past century.

    1) If there is no God, how was everything created?
No one knows 100% not even scientists but I believe "The Big Bang Theory" to some extent
    2) What reason is there to do right?
To make you feel good. Karma?
    3) What defines right and wrong? We as people define what is right or wrong, but that's clearly an opinion. If I punched someone in self-defense because I was about to get my ass kicked I'm sure someone else would say it wasn't "self-defense".
