Buying A Machine That Will Play WoW Decently... help please.

    Hi,

So im over playing laggy wow on this stupid laptop, 1gb ram like 1.6ghz xp piece of crap, lol.

Im looking at getting a pc, I want to get something that will play wow decently, like want it to look nice and smooth when playing.

I've been looking around and at my budget i've found these.

    1.
    2.
    3.
Sorry if wrong section, couldn't find a tech section?

    Anyway..

Would something like one of those run it decent, and would spending a bit extra on a nice video card and putting it in one of those make a difference or would there be no point? or adding ram, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

You'll want at least 2g ram, a dual or quad core (try an i3 or i5, theyre cheap and dont suck up a lot of power), and a dedicated graphics card. It looks to me like those are integrated GPUs, which wont run the game well at all. I don't know a lot about nvidia these days, but from my experience, you could find one with an ATI 5700 or 5800 series which will run the game mostly without any problems, as they are more upper end cards. Plus they are reasonably cheap now due to the newer cards taking over the market.

Keep looking I'd say. Find a model with a dedicated card, or build one yourself if you have the knowledge, time and money.

None of these are really great, but if it was out of these, i'd be going with build one.

Here, i've made a quick budget build, under $500.

    Intel Core i3
    4 Pack 120MM Case Fan
    4GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram
    Asus P7H55-M LGA1156 Motherboard
    Galaxy GT430 1GB Graphics
    500GH Seagate 7200RPM HDD
    Samsung 22x DVD RW Drive
    Creative 5.1 Sound Card
    Aywun Case with 420W PSU

    Total $571

Of course, you could downgrade the CPU to a Dual Core e5200, although the i3 is alot faster.

PM me if there are any further questions.

i3 and i5 are like the new faster cores or something along those lines, right? Are the dual cores or something? I was thinking about building my own, my brother can do it as he has built a couple of his own and I just need to buy the parts. I have the money to spend I just don't want to spend the wrong money on the wrong computer like I did last time.

I want it so I can run WoW and have a decent graphic output,. Will be playing on a 22" maybe a 24" but just a 19" to start with until I buy another screen. While WoW is going, I will be listening to music (iTunes) and maybe facebook will be on idle in the background.

So this would be around what I am spending.

    Motherboard - Asus P7H55-M Intel H55, Socket 1156 (i3,i5 & i7) ATX DDR3 Motherboard
    CPU - Intel Core i3 550 3.20 GHz Processor Socket 1156 (4MB L3 Cache)
    Ram - Transcend JetRam DDR3-1333 2GB DIMM (x2)
Graphics Card - Gigabyte GV-N240OC-1GI Overclocked GT 240 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E DVI HDTV HDCP HDMI ATX Video Card
(If you could look here I dont want to spend over $200 on one really but open to suggestions)
DVD Drive - Lite-On IHAS524 ALLWRITE 24x SATA DVDRW with Label Tag - Black
    Case - Here

Will that give me a decent setup? Thanks for any help in advance.

Converted from NZD to USD is something along the lines of 700USDish.

If you can show me from www.elive.co.nz links thats in NZD so 900-1kish is budget. That way I can buy it online. I won't have it for a bit but when I get the stuff ill post some pics.

    Thanks

Alright. I'm currently looking at the website www.Macotechnology.com.au

On the website you gave, i can't find a "Custom build" Type thing.

I'll give you what you could do for around 900ish NZD.

    ________________________________________________

Intel Core i5 655K 3.2 GHZ = $243 (You can change this to an i3 to save around $100, although i recommend the i5)

Coolmaster 4 Pack 120MM Fans ($29) (You can get these in Blue/Green etc to match the case if you choose the case, just if you care for neon lights, only another $10-$15)

    4GB DDR3 Corsair Ram $59

    ASUS P7H55-M LX LGA1156, 2xDDR3, PCIE, Int.VGA, DVI, HDMI, RAID, mATX $109

    Powercolor ATI HD5750 1gb $139

    500GB WD HDD $49

    Samsung 22x DVD Drive $28

    Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 $35

    Thermaltake V3 Case with 450W PSU $83

How does that sound? It comes to $762.

You will need an install of Windows. I can get you Windows XP or Vista, just PM me, and i'll sort that out for ya.

Thanks heaps for spending your time on that.

Did you miss out the motherboard? If thats the total price then i'll keep with the i5 processor.

Also, I want a better sound card than that. I'll keep with the on-board sound then once it is built and I have some extra cash Ill get one, whats a reasonable one worth? Will probably just buy a nice set of 5.1 logitech speakers.

    Thanks.

EDIT - Sorry, read it wrong, now I see the motherboard lol.

Them creative 5.1 Sound cards are ideal. I have one in one of my PC's, hooked up to some Logitech X-530's, and it sounds great.

Yeah the motherboard is in there.

Is this price good for you?

Good lord most of these posters are just so misinformed that I have to post.

    1) All three of those builds are crappy for playing WoW; their processor is overkill and their GPU sucks.

    2) I have a PC built last year for $575 shipped that runs WoW at 1280x1024 on Ultra everything 4xAA cataclysm graphics with a steady 100fps.

    3) If you want to run WoW 'decently' all you need is literally a dual core and nothing more than an $50 graphics card. Getting an i3 is just way too much.

    Thanks for your post.

So if I got a motherboard that could handle a core 2 duo intel processor and a core 2 duo, 4gig ram, a hdd, and spent around $50-$100 on a graphics card I should be able to play it on good settings?

    Thanks.

    Yeah.

What ram can you fit? Such as 1333MHZ Ram for example.

    The processor is okay.

Just get a good ATI graphics

No. It's a graphics issue since your processor is just fine. I've got a pretty beast machine myself, I can run WoW on everything maxed except that shadows always have to be low (on GTA4 as well), but am getting a new card for xmas.

Back on track though, you can run WoW maxed smoothly if you've got the graphics and the processor with probably around 2GB of ram; ram is application storage not speed. If you're curious, here's my build:

    AMD Athlon II X4 (630) @ 2.8GHz
    4GB RAM (DD3 Kingston, 1033Mhz I believe)
    500GB SATA2 Western Digital HDD
(Forget my mobo lol, but has DD3/AM3, 6 core support)
    nVidia GeForce 9500GT, 1GB
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Total might have come to around 600 bucks including the graphics card and power supply that I had from my previous machine (graphics card was around $120 when I got it new a few years back).

    Oh also, wrong section

No man buy a decent graphics card ( something like a 8800 or 9800 would do wonders) If you need help deciding let me know.
