    There's another free app called textPlus 4 Free Text that lets you text/get texts. You get your own number there as well.

    Pretty cool app, I don't even have a jailbroken iTouch and it seems to work well. It's worth noting that you don't need any payment information to qualify for the free 30-day trial

    Would've tried it but I don't have an iPod Touch :(

    Maybe when my bro comes back from his vacation I will use his to try.

    If you get it from the app store you get a 30 day free trial, but I think if you get it off installous then it's free forever. It does work nicely, but I think that any calls made to the number while the app is closed will simply go straight to voicemail which is a bit of a disadvantage.
