Well I have had a horrible year recently and this subject just always came up.

What is the point of even living, there is very little chance that any of us will really make some great "impact" on the world or help further humanity. Most of us will hardly even make an impact in human history. Pleasure is just our brain releasing chemicals that tell us we are feeling good and every joy in life seems so short lived. In essence everyone is just flesh and bones walking until their brain ceases to function at which time they stop "being" because they cannot have a thought or anything.

I mean it really just seems that all I do is eat, work and sleep and I am still going into debt. Just a general topic kind of question I had.

Post your views and such, and no I am not high.

The point of living is the reason you haven't killed yourself yet.

Reason I haven't killed myself is because I want to exist, but that is hardly a reason to live for at all. I know its an oxymoron.

There's a certain beauty in the tragedies of life. It's something you only get to experience once, and then it's an eternity of nothing. Perhaps you need some religeous guidance. I don't personally believe in any of them but perhaps it can bring some peace and meaning into your life. Next time a jehova witness knocks on your door, let him in. ;D

    Whats wrong with being high???

For the record, your answer may and will most likely be a different one than mine, and may be totally related or the complete opposite. I have been pondering the same question for a long time now, and have only recently realized the true answer (for me) i too was going through a really hard time last summer and shortly before summer break. I was dating this girl for 4 months and she was 3 months pregnant, we were happy and engaged, and then one day she just stopped loving me. She broke up with me and that's when I starting falling, deep down in to what felt like would never end or would be short lived, along with me. I starting doin hella drugs like; XTC, Ketamine, Ocycottons, Percocets, Lortabs, Adderalls, Rhydalins, and a bunch of other pills i dont even remember the names... It got so bad that theres a whole month of my life i forgot, which was last August (Aug. 2009). And then one day, last Halloween, I met the most wonderful, most gorgeous and most kind-hearted lady. We started dating, and fell in TRUE love. Her name is Melissa. The first time i had ever truly loved someone. Then, last November, after not hearing from my ex for 6 moths i get a call for met to come see my daughter for the first time, she is 2 weeks old. And then I started to realize something, I cant let her life get f*cked up like mine. I GOTTA DO BETTER, BUT NOT FOR ME. Me and lady from last Halloween have been together for over a year now and will be for years to come. She and I have now had a son together who is not quite 3 months old, and are deeply in love.

My point, In my opinion and beliefs, our lives aren't just for us, its for those around us too, picking them up when they fall, offering a shoulder to cry on, and getting that back in return. Don't ecpect to get it back, DO get it back. Friends that don't hold to their word, or don't treat you right or respect you, aren't real friends. It's better to have NO friends than FAKE ones. I hope you can sympathize with this or maybe relate a bit, and I hope this helps.

    Sincerely,

    ---Taylor Red

The hope of changing the world for the better, or the hope of finding a significant other you want to spend the rest of your life with?

To try and be better than everyone else?

Something along the lines of that, for me at least.

Make your own reason for existence, don't follow others :)

Reason being, you will be a lot happier with your own life

Take a good look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It explains the usual cycle of human society. At the end of his lifetime, Maslow added into this hierarchy of needs another level: self-actualization. You may be wandering into this highest level of self-actualization. This is only a hint from me. If you are serious and want to go into this, there is endless adventure for you.

Great impact or no impact at all you still created something with yourself and for others for just being there. If you were never born people might have been a lot happier or they could have been a lot worse. The point is that you're here and so is everyone else. There'd be no great impact if there wasn't anyone to cause impact to.

The trials and tribulations are all a part of life and no matter what anyone says, they have a certain charm to them.

The main point to life is what you leave behind. I don't care what anybody says, everyone leaves something for someone. Listen to the song "History" by Jay-Z, it's explained pretty well. Forget about being in debt, forget the material possessions, if you truly give a shit about having a meaning in your life (I don't believe most people do), do something to change the world. Everyone has the power to change the world. I'll try to apply some Big Sean lyrics as best I can:

    "Money's like fuckin',
    If you grind hard enough,
    then that bitch'll keep comin"

Yes, I realize those lyrics are decently crude, but there's intelligence behind those lyrics that can be applied to -anything-. If you REALLY wanna change the world, keep at it. If you're getting 100 exp/hour on Runescape, you'll get 99 eventually if you just keep at it. If you can't stand to keep at it, that's what makes you different than people who are in history, and you really just have to accept that fact.

Life is a waste. People tend to think of life as something so great and fantastic; I guess it's only natural for us to think of it like that since we possess it and fear losing it. But, in reality, anything alive is simply leeching off the resources around it. From humans to insects to animals, we're all just diseases that ravage through everything to keep our lives, which I find to be pointless. Think about it; our only true primal goals in life are to consume, contain, and release energy, which is used primarily to reproduce our diseased species.

Then again, if you think of things that way, then there isn't really a purpose to anything at all. Existence as a whole is meaningless.

And this is how religion started... A meaningless existence was incomprehendible for some people, and thus an image of purposefulness was created through such religions.

I honestly pity you if that's the way you feel. What a depressing, pointless life you must lead.

I'd say most people just live a life for self pleasure; whatever makes them feel good. As a Christian, I actually have a purpose in my every day life; I don't just sit about being gloomy like Blupig. If you care to discuss, shoot me a PM, as I don't want to start yet another fanatical religious debate on here.

You criticize Blupig yet you just contradicted your criticism by stating that most people live for themselves (which is what Blupig was basically getting at). I agree with Blupig but that does not mean I sit around though, I work and go to college full time, but at work I get a lot of time to think about the subject of being in general. I mean when we die our brains cease to work and therefore we are left unable to create or process thought, thought is what gives us the sense of existence. When we die we never come back, we cease to exist and life goes on without us.

I believe this is how religion formed, people were too scared by death so they created a story of how death is not the end and giving people hope, those who give people hope gain control over them.

First thing.. Nobody knows what happens when you die. Science doesn't even know for fact.

And yes, religion in my opinion was derived by fear. The possibility that when you die, you just turn off like a light switch is frightening and human beings are incapable of coping with this in a manner that allows them to live their life fearless. Religion is a cushion; faith that no matter what happens, when you die you will still "technically" be alive.

This has nothing to do with depression, however. Entirely different discussion.

If you're depressed and don't get what life is about, either surround yourself with new people, or take some adderall. Problem solved.

I don't see where Blupig stated people live for pleasure? Also, are you stating that you believe religion was created off of the desire to govern over others?

    you helped fuel the fire.
    I am debating nothing.
my opinion is unwavering without scientific evidence proving otherwise, thus attempting a debate would be purposeless.
