Ok, I am an insomniac. I have a full day of work ahead of myself with 3 hours of sleep. No energy drinks available, nothing herbal or anything. Any help?

I think he means that he has had 3 hours of sleep, not that he is going to sleep 3 hours.

Tell your boss that you didn't have much sleep for some reason and that you're going to have a pretty dizzy day in that case and that you'd probably not turn up but you 'strive yourself to go to work every day'. Some crap like that.

I have the same problem... been going with about a total of 10-12 hours of sleep in 3 days. I usually just suck it up and try my best, though I get highly unmotivated and I nearly dose off everyday, I at least get by in school (might be tougher for you since it's a job but meh)... By the way, I personally don't suggest sleeping meds, as they've done nothing but make me wake up, ironically (I was on 3 different kinds, the doctor was too stubborn to put me on heavier ones because I'm "too young"), but my friend was put on something called "tripton"... Or something along those lines. They're used to treat bipolar disorder, but when used in small doses can be used as a sleeping med. Problem is, they are VERY VERY addicting. Within a month, he was upping his dose because he couldn't sleep without them anymore and the dose itself was just too small to help him sleep. So yeah, I suggest you talk to your doctor about tripton if it's really THAT bad, but overall, I don't find sleeping meds helped me, maybe you'd be different, though.

Insomnia is caused by subconscious disquiet. Usually it's something easily identifiable in your life which you don't want to do or think that you shouldn't be doing, and which you are doing anyway. The human mind does not let you hold contractions like this, and it will fight you in ways such as insomnia until you resolve the issue.

    Insomnia is almost always psychological.

Yeah Sythe, mine's linked to Major Depression/Social Anxiety... I know a few people though who's insomnia aren't linked to anything psychological. In this case, the only way we can assume what his insomnia is linked to is work. My father has a horrible case of insomnia due to his shifts being jumbled... Anyways, that might have been off topic, but I just wanted to share that. In any case, a doctor would be a good idea if it's really bad.

Explain to your boss that your lack of sleep last night will cause fatigue. This may lead to injury on the job site... I'm sure he'll prefer you stay home for the day.

Not all the time. Sometimes as you said stress causes it.

Me, my mind is always racing, moving fast. Even without caffeine or energy drinks. It must be something to do with ADD since i have it (apparently) and when it comes time to sleep my mind is still racing. When I close my eyes my mind would still race. There's something called melatonin it helps my mind slow down at the end of the day. It doesn't knock you out though, you have to work with it. My two cents.
