I'm pretty certain I want to do something computer related for my major... I was thinking computer science major and business minor (is that a minor?).

Is anyone here a computer science major? I'm somewhat overwhelmed by all the different types of programming jobs... do you learn everything? O_O

I think I might want to be a web designer .... but ive been googleing for a salary and it looks like they dont make much, average is like $50000

edit: i mean web developer... they make like the least of all the CS salaries but i think i would like it..

Well, how old are you, what college are you attending, and what experience do you have in computer science?

I'd advise 1 year at a tech or community college first. That will let you dive into multiple computer subjects and see what you really want to do. Not to mention its insanely cheap compared to regular college.

I took a few programming classes and ended up in Networking.

17, unsure what college, and I took beginner and AP computer science last year (java), got a 3 on the AP test.

But then I've wasted a year?

Wasting one year, is exponentially better than wasting multiple years, and thousands of dollars.

I'm a computer science major, but I've a few days left before I start college. I'll be taking programming courses, but next semester, I'll be able to take more specific courses, mainly my favorite: security.

I majored in computer science in highschool though. We took a broad range of computer related courses; comp sci, comp engineering, etc. I took AP Java and got a 5 (which puts me a semester ahead in college).

Out of all the courses, the programming was the best, although engineering makes the most. Engineering is hard, but most people do it for the money. Web developing is fun, I agree, and I think you should do it just because you like it.

Remember though, you'll only be a freshman in college, which means you still have plenty of time to change your major without it being that big of an impact. Just don't be too picky and change every semester. It'll be a waste of time and money.
