    Electric car conspiracy.

Earlier today, my dad and I were discussing over some nice Subway the matter of Electric cars. Scientists have the ability to construct a space station in outer-space but have not yet come to create the first fully electronic automobile. I'm not Scientist, but seeing how they are able to build something as large as that, it must not be that hard to construct an electric car.

Could this simply be a conspiracy between the automotive market & the oil companies? In my personal view of the topic I do believe they are keeping them away from Earths population. If they were introduced think about how bad all the gas station would go out of business (anticipating that they won't cost 1million dollars each). Oil stocks would crash as they would be utilized for different tasks and not to power the engine's of earths 6 billion population.

    Discuss.

    Good arguments:

There are already electric cars, but what's the point? How do you think they produce the energy to make the electricity...?

I'm amazed you don't know electric cars exist. The problem is that they are inferior to normal cars.

this. mainly because when you charge the batteries in your car, the power comes from coal industries which means you produce pollution nonetheless. also they're fairly expensive.

    They do exist...

The main obstruction to fully electric cars is the enormous weight and relative inefficiency of current batteries.

I know they exist but how come they're not in the economy e.g. how come not everyday citizens are driving them. They would save so much money on gas and possibly help us out of the economic slump by saving $5000 on gas every year.

    Electric car conspiracy.

I saw a movie in middle school about this. What happened was GM created fully electric cars with the help of a battery that was made to be efficient in 1996. They rented the cars out in California, they were called EV-1s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1
However, they never sold any. Then in 1999 they recalled them all, even though people loved them, and crushed them all at a plant in Arizona.
Clearly, the oil companies had something to do with it, and I'm not one to support conspiracies.

    Electric car conspiracy.

A movie i recently watched called "Knight and Day", involves a Perpetual Energy source (or a renewable energy source) in the shape of a battery, which basically means that it was everlasting (it never ran out of electricity), which, at current times, the only perpetual energy source is the Sun.

If a scientist or company was to be able to develop such a source of energy, The Electric Car, I believe could exist in today's society...

    But without that, The Electric Car cant, mainly because it'd take roughly two weeks to get from London (england's capital), to Edinburgh (Capital City of scotland), when a normal car could do this in roughly 9 hours (guess+Presuming the driver follows road safety laws), This is because;

1.) The battery's in today's electrical cars get used up too much and too quickly.
2.) They take about 15 hours to recharge.
3.) Needs to be charged by one of these
[IMG], which your normally find them at huge warehouses or caravan sites.
4.) Already outstripped by Hydrogen cars, Hybrids are doing pretty well already.

    Electric car conspiracy.

Coal industries are not the only source of electricity. There are also Nuclear power plants and Hydro electricity that are environment friendly.

Of course the base models would be inferior to our current cars of today. 20 odd years ago, GM had created electric cars that were able to be driven on the road. The whole project mysteriously disappeared. Technology will only evolve with the years to come meaning if those cars were developed 20 years ago, maybe today they would be just that much better then the cars we currently have with all the money saved from being spent on gas that could have gone into development.

The electric cars were constructed by General Motor's and not Ford. Apparently they had leased xxx amount of cars and had to cancel the lease's at random to have them destroyed. Why would they do this? There's an obvious reason because from what I understand they put a big smile on the consumers face.

And in the movie Avatar... It's a movie not real life. Even if such a source of energy was created whatever car had that kind of a life force in it would cost not the usual $30,000 not $150,000 but probably in the millions. How is that helping out the economy when only maybe 1000 people of the world would want to purchase one of those cars.

Remember that in todays society we are capable of flying man into space, build iPod's, Nuclear weapons but we are unable to revolutionize the automotive market by introducing a stable electric car?

Yes, but the majority of energy comes from fossil fuels, so that's where the majority of the electricity that the cars run on comes from.

    this and also

You have no where to dispose of the nuclear waste. it will stay on earth buried somewhere forever. And hydro power is expensive.

It would be hard, as in our current age we don't have a battery lightweight and strong enough to move a 2,000 pound car.

Like the other guy said, we already have electric cars... must be missing something.

$5000 on gas every year? Are you kidding me? At 20MPG and $2.50 per gallon, that's 40000 Miles in one year? And 110 miles per day. Who does that?...

Electric cars exist..they just don't have the performance of conventional cars and haven't fully caught on.

The oil companies got rid of the electric car.

There was also a problem about installing pit stops for electric cars across the nation.
