Sythe.Org IM System!

As we all know, recently a lot of MSN accounts/windows live ids were getting hacked. Be that as it may, I think there is a way to fix this, well, somewhat.

What I am proposing is a chat system for Sythe, similar to Facebook. I understand that this would require users to be signed into Sythe all the time to use the chat, but it couldn't hurt?

Its common knowledge that these MSN's are being hacked via revert, which is recovering an account by using the owners personal information. Well, Sythe accounts cannot be hacked in such a way. That is the reason being that I think we should implement this chat.

I am open to constructive criticism, so tell me what you think!

Note: Mods/Admins, I saw in the "Do Not Suggest" list that we should not suggest a "Shoutbox", but to my knowledge, this is not a shoutbox or even similar to it. If it is, I apologize.

 

This would be kind of cool. Like the Facebook chat, you have a list of everyone online, and you can pick someone to chat with, and maybe it keeps a log for moderators/administrators (they will be able to see all chat logs). This would help improve security against scammers.

 

Well, yes. It would be a little odd if they have every Sythe.org user on the list youre referring to, but maybe if we had a friends list?

 

Yes, a friends list would be great. I think this is a fantastic idea because of all the MSN's being hacked.

 

Exactly, I don't expect to see many non-supporters here, although I expect some criticism from the mods.

 

Been suggested in the past. The admins said it would lag the site too much.

 

vBulletin has a default friends list system on it. I'm not sure if they have it on v3.6.4 (the version Sythe is using), but they do for sure have it on higher versions.

It would be quite easy to integrate this with a chat feature.

Ah, yes, I suppose it would. SInce there's 300+ people online at one time, if everyone chatted, it would lag it quite a lot. Especially if logs were kept.

 

This is a really good idea, it'd help a lot and I'd definitely use it. I expect it would be very hard to implement, but it's worth it.

I suspected a no from the mods. If it would lag out the site, we would probably be better without it I suppose.

 

Support, also if the logs are kept, it can show immediate proof of scammers because most scams ppl noly have chat logs for it, and cant report, with this, mods / admins just go into the logs of that chat

 

It could be like a seperate app in total. Like an Aim type app. That would work great.. although I suppose that would be the same as having MSN. But you would log in with your sythe stuff.

 

Just forget it guys. Nick says this was suggested before and admins say it will lag the site.

It sounds like a good idea, but wouldn't this slow the site down?

 

Make it on a separate page such as sythe.org/chat and then only people on sythe.org/chat would lag and it wouldnt lag the overlay of the webpage.

It's still on the same web server (computer that runs sythe) so just because it's in a separate folder doesn't mean it wont affect the main site.

If this chat idea were to be on-site, then a subdomain could be assigned to the chat application on another server entirely.
