Memberlist search blocked?

What happened to searching the memberlist for the last people to join?

Sythe disabled it earlier as it was being exploited.

 

@Verts: Will it never be made available to us again? Or is a temporary thing?

I've used it about five times over a week or so at the most.

 

Haha some assholes are abusing it, it'll be up eventually.

Oh Verts, I know he isn't the sole reason for it being disabled, but isn't it disabled for that abuse using that method? That's why I linked there... because I figured it was disabled to prevent people like him doing more damage.

Well, a temporary work around if you're looking to find a certain member is this:

Open up google, and type in the searchbox:

That cant really be abused.

 

How can you abuse an member shearch thing?

Not saying I will or anything, Im new to the forum system, not sure how it really works.

 

So it won't ever be up again? I use it when people tell me their sythe name in trades. What happened?

 

It may only be temporarily, but in the meantime simply google their sythe name (ie. Skele_Master site:Sythe.org) or, to be safer, the MSN they are using to confirm that it is not an impostor. If you still cannot find someone, feel free to PM or message a mod on MSN.

 

Memberlist and forum searches involve heavy CPU usage, especially on forums like sythe. Memberlist searches unlike forum searches aren't regulated, so unfortunately they can be easily abused. That's probably why it was disabled.

For security reasons, I'm not really able to explain any further I'm afraid. I'm very sorry!

 

I presume he uses it to search for ban evaders. It's much simpler to do so that way. I do it from time to time as well. Search for the newest members post to see if it contains an MSN address, google it and then see if it matches an evader.

 

I myself was wondering why this was down, but i'm not game enough to ask what you mean by abuse. Hopefully you can make some system of getting it back without the abuse.
