Getting Older

Anyone else feel like they're becoming or have become someone their younger selves would be so annoyed with?

As I've gotten older (I'm 29, nearly 30 yikes) I've noticed that it's slowly getting harder and harder to relate to people younger than me. I find myself being the person I HATED growing up because I find that I'm having such a problem enjoying this new generation of music, especially hip-hop/rap. I feel like the last time I really enjoyed the new music that was coming out was around 2017-2018, which would of been around the time I was about 25. Even artists that I've loved I just find it really difficult to find enjoyment out of their newer music, I always just prefer their older music no matter who it is.

Also I've become one of those people that are always like "man if I could go back in time to when I was younger, or man you don't know how easy you have it!" (to younger people such as kids or teenagers). And in reality I know that is such a terrible comment to make because I know nothing about their lives, but I mainly just mean adulthood vs being a kid/teenager.

Anyone else feel the same way or have similar thoughts?

 

I feel like most people in their 20-30s are in the same boat

Man just wait until you actually get old and have to deal with health problems

 

I feel like the only thing that has changed for me as I get older is my responsibilities. I am a kid at heart and I still love gaming, anime, cartoons, and a few other things and I don't think that will ever change for me.

I do feel like sometimes I am becoming my dad though lol I say things he use to say to me but to my kids now.

 

I feel the exact same way, we learn as we grow and make mistakes

 

Responsibilities kicked in, my realisation to bills and other things that had to be sorted, exams making me lose my hair... And the fact that it's been nearly 10 years in Old School runescape and I still haven't maxed...

I wouldn't say I hate who I have become. I turned 28 this year. But I am definitely in the same boat as you in terms of being annoyed and not understanding today's music etc.

On the topic of music. I pretty much listen to everything. Literally everything from Beethoven to 2pac. But I just can't get behind the usual music of today. I also get so annoyed at the current trends of remixing lines or memes and turning them into music. It infuriates me so much. But usually I keep to myself so I don't become that old man who is telling the younger generation that their music is garbage .

 

30 years old here and feel like death..

 

I feel that I've actually become someone my younger self would have been pretty happy with. There were many things I wanted to do then but didn't have the means to and now I am finally starting to accomplish them. Monetarily I'm definitely far behind where I expected, but certain things I've built are far ahead of the visions that I originally had.

There's actually more for every style of music than ever before so I feel even for those who like older stuff if they really look they can find modern stuff that has the same feel as certain 80s or 90s stuff but with even better quality sometimes. One thing is that we have to remain open to things like we did when we were first discovering the things that we liked.

I also see high hopes in the youth and feel that each generation is more beautiful than the last, being more understanding.

It's true that much has gotten easier and this is a good thing all around, for us and them to. Overall though we also face unique issues together like rising prices of housing, food, and schooling. Overall, we have to work together.

I also remember once on the login screen for RuneScape, Jagex had put "The oldest White Knight is still Sir Vyvin!"

 

I'll be 30 in a couple of months I honestly feel a lot better then when I did 5 years ago and ealier because I used to be very skinny (6'3 160lbs), shy, low confidence, low self esteem, just gamed and worked never really did much else.

Now I'm 210lbs looking and feeling great met a great girl couple years ago she's really changed my life.

 

Never really cared about relating to other people. I just do my own thing and it seems to work out just fine.
