[Denied] Disable signatures in Community Events

Self-explanatory.

People are paying money to advertise their business just to have 3 banners on the main post alone link to potential competitors, doesn't make much sense.

If you want to keep signatures on, another solution would be to use the designated accounts to post the threads. @Grim Reaper, @Elf, @Easter Bunny, etc. However, would probably be more annoying for the CDT to deal with.

 

Agreed, the main post should only advertise the sponsor.
Below that, I don't see a reason for people's signatures not being visible

I'm not sure this is possible within Xenforo, but even if, I don't understand why it's necessary.

There's value to businesses who advertise in the signature space of a CDT member. I've been on CDT for two years now and have led CDT for two terms. Never once has any event sponsor complained about the signatures of Sythe members who volunteer their time absolutely free of charge. In other words, it's never detracted from the value/perceived value an event sponsor receives. In fact, I personally very rarely pay attention to signature banners, period, because EVERYONE has them. The only banner that really gets noticed is at the top of the page on an event, as well as in a discord @, IMO.


There's also absolutely nothing stopping a business owner from choosing to advertise in a signature spot rather than pay to sponsor a specific event.

 

With this in mind - why not have a CDT account, of which the revenue gets split between the members?

Because signature advert spots are not CDT sponsors? I have 5.4K forum posts and only 5-10 of my posts each year are the OP on a CDT event thread. Again, if someone in CDT chooses to advertise in their signature then so be it. I hope I'm not coming across as brazen, but what you're suggesting is complicated and even more unnecessary than the original suggestion.

 

I fully understand your reasoning. Though, like you're saying, if they are your sponsors, not CDT sponsors, what are they doing on a main thread of a CDT event?

Especially since it's somewhat unpredictable which cdt member will post the thread.

Not because of anything, we advertise with CDT members too & have benefited in the past of the exact same scenario.
However I definitely understand the OP opinion.

Perfect solution in my personal opinion, would be disable signatures in the main post, keeping them visible on all others or use the before mentioned CDT accounts for the main thread.

Either disable the whole section, or just create a new CDT dummy account for posts like this

 

^ No support, although I do agree CDT could use the other accounts more often, mostly because they were made to be used and it simply looks nicer.

 

FWIW, I used the holiday accounts whenever possible for events when I led (Christmas, Halloween, etc.). I do agree with utilizing them as much as possible. It makes the events more fun, both for the public but also for CDT. I always enjoyed a little profile post trolling from an anonymous holiday account
