I agree with The Suspect, it would make sense for the firemaking.

 

Because willows would take a hell of a long time to get 99. I honestly don't know.

 

I thought the best logs for F2P was always willows. Look at all the guides. They're all based on willows. I am confused.

 

It should be a p2p feature, but w/e if Jagex wants to make the most efficient log f2p that's fine too.
It could also be to try to increase the demand for maples, as there is such a surplus of them.

You can't cut maples in f2p, you can only burn them/use them in bows.

Yes, you can burn them, but there's not a single place to cut them in F2P, though they are tradable/buyable in the grand exchange. As far as I know maple log has always been a f2p item.

 

Maybe maples are f2p but there aren't any maple trees in the f2p land to cut =P
