    Obama.

I'd like to have a mature discussion about my American president, Barack Obama. He's our first african-american president and the first democratic one in 8 years. There's a huge controversy as to HOW he became our president because most will say It's because he's black. Either way that's not for discussion.

I'd rather talk about the "change" he promised and the "change" to come. Many internet websites including Youtube, CollegeHumor and many others such as the notorious 4chan talk good and bad about him. (Well, no good from 4chan). Many talk about how there is no change. Some others talk about change that we didn't ask for such as the split decision over homosexuality and health care. Many will say how he told everyone what they want to hear but there was no action or hasn't been yet.

It's also a fact that he has injected more soldiers into Afghanistan after promising to withdraw from the middle east.

It's a large discussion for us all. I only ask that for those who're not American please be easy. Give a lighter opinion. Even though he is "The most powerful man in the world", doesn't mean you can post and say "He's a nigger, and i'm from australia lololol". Voice your opinion. Please stay mature.

I don't think he'll be any different then Bush, he's promising lots of stuff, but I doubt most of it will happen. Just like Bush, he's sending out more troops and doing unreasonable stupid shit.

I heard he's willing to legalize most drugs and prostitution to stimulate the economy, how will other countries think of us? The only drug that should be legalized is Marijuana, that itself will bring in a bunch of jobs and money. They could tax it, and sell it.. which means much more profit then Tobacco.

I'd say he's different than Bush. A good number of his policies (gay rights, torture, stem cell research) are different.

The only reason he sent more troops is due to the fact we're already in a war. You can't just leave thousands of troops without reinforcements or pull them out of an unstable country Bush created.

Sending more troops in Afghanistan is a good thing in my opinion. More troops = more support = less casualties & faster to eliminate the threat? Also, just because he's African makes him no different from anyone else. He just lied like all famous presidents did.

    Obama.

I am Australian, let that preface my post.

I think Mr Obama is an incredible man, and it is a racist and ridiculous statement to declare the sole reason he was elected as the colour of his skin. He is not perfect, but it would have been impossible for him to maintain to the letter every single one of his policies in only his first year in office.

Just give him time. What he has already accomplished has dramatically changed the attitude towards the US in Australia, and elsewhere around the world.

On which policies has he displayed such hypocrisy? I'd be interested to know, as I don't follow US domestic politics as much as I probably should. Why does being black become the sole reason for his election? It would be very easy for me to say that McCain would only have been elected because he was white, Hilary Clinton because she was a woman or Sarah Palin purely for her comedic value.

That's a null point and a racist statement which has no bearing on the debate here.

What Mr Obama has already accomplished in less than one year in office is incredible in itself, and as dansmith said, in time he will deliver on his promises to the best of his ability.

The war in Afghanistan is certainly a difficult issue for the US and the world, but bear in mind the decision to invade was made by the previous government, not the Democrats, and as another said it is impossible for the US to withdraw at this moment. Unlike in Iraq however, the security in Afghanistan is gradually increasing, as more and more responsibility is being placed in the Afghani government and people.

In conclusion, while Mr Obama may not have delivered on all of his promises yet, his government has been in office for less than a year, and he must be given time. He has vastly improved the opinion foreigners hold of America and the American people, and besides, the alternative to him as President is John McCain and Sarah Palin, which is a terrifying thought.

I'm not going to sit here and say he would have had no chance without the black vote. Nor am I going to say the majority voted for him because he is black.

However, the white guild IS real. Pathetic I know. Also do you know the increase in blacks that voted this year? Why? >_<

    Obama.

Just had to say something about this comment because a lot of people accuse others of racism without understanding what they are saying.

There is no denying that the colour of his skin was a huge factor in his election. It doesn't make one racist to point out the obvious. He didn't win by that big of a margin and he gained an awful lot of first time black voters.

It definitley wasn't the only reason he won, but calling someone racist just for mentioning it shows an incredible lack of maturity.

I think Obama has had an easy time in the press up until recently exactly because of people like you. In the beginning commentators were weary of criticising Obama for fear of being branded racist. Certain influential political figures have even promoted this view; publicly denouncing Obama's critics as racist.

Another example of just how easy he has had it is his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize...*before* he even became President. There were hoards of people queing up to congratulate him for doing nothing at all.

I'm not saying Obama is a bad President, he's not. I'm just saying that he is the same as any other politician. He doesn't deserve special treatment.

Erm... more troops = less casualties?
To be perfectly honest, that is a ridiculous claim.
More troops means there are more soldiers with more guns and more bullets and the Afghans get more worried about their country and are more defensive so there is more fighting resulting in MORE casualties.
Obama didn't get elected solely because he is black.
He got elected because #1. He is black. #2. He claimed to bring change.
He got nominated for the nobel peace prize because he said he would withdraw troops from the middle east but so far all he has done towards that is send more in... Why didn't George Bush get nominated for the nobel peace prize when he said that he was going to withdraw them? I can assure you... he said that aswell.
Obama had more than doubled America's national debt within his first month in office.
Honestly, he hasn't been doing an amazing job as president...

Let me rephrase, my post was a bit impassioned.

I know he got some votes because he was black, but what annoys me is when people declare the only reason he was elected was because he is black.

He won because he's black and has the ability to turn political speeches into emotional porno with his amazing vocabulary.

I never liked him in the first place, and I still don't - but rest assured you, he is the better of two evils. McCain and Palin would be even worse than Obama could ever be.

A lot of people are addressing the situation in Afghanistan too lightly.

I do believe that Obama was planning to take the soldiers out, but there's a lot more going on that we can simply observe and put our opinions on. Like the fact that taking the soldiers out could drive a retaliation, leaving us all less defended.

Obama has put his influential word on a lot of things, which make life for Americans that much better.

Mind you, he hasn't fulfilled all of his promises, but he hasn't been in office that long, either. He still has 4 years, and within that time, I do believe he's planning on taking action.

Honestly, I think Obama is a Ass kisser.

He's sucking up to other Leaders, Hardcore, I mean, if bowing to one, kissing ones hand, etc, letting a former terrorist come back to the U.S after blowing up airliners isn't sucking up, then what the hell.

Hell he's even talked shit on his own country, blown off our troops. He's the president, for christ sakes he's supposed to keep in touch with our troops, and help command them, give them support, etc. Now Most of our troops feel abandoned by their own country.

He's like bush in a way. Lots of promises, but few come true.

Promises a bailout for everyone, gives it to the richer, higher up there people, and expects it to 'drop down' to the lowers. Kiss my ass, most of those richer people that he bailed out, are greedy bastards and nickle and dime themselves so they keep as much money as possible.

Thats what I think he is, why, and then some other random reasons why.

As for the change, I think the change he's talking about is making it a One world government or whatever you call it. He highly supports it.

And I think the one world government would be completely fucked up in a lot of ways, but I'm far to lazy to type them up.
