Make Windows 7 feel like XP/Vista

    HEY YOU!

    Yea you!

Do you have Windows 7? Can't stand the weird superbar? Want things the way they should be? Read on.

    What will this tutorial cover?
I'll show you how to add quick launch back on to the taskbar, ungroup programs/show text and allow you to have MSN hidden away in the tray instead of taking up program space on the taskbar.

    STEP #1
    Get Windows 7 ffs

    STEP #2
Kay so you start up Windows 7 for the first time and are all like YAY, then you see the taskbar and your heart drops. You must have seen something atrocious like the following:

    STEP #3
Right click that fat son-of-a-bitch (your taskbar) and click on "Properties".

    STEP #4
Change the options so that they are similar to the following:

    STEP #5
Kay, this isn't really a step, but you should have something liek dis:

    STEP #6
Quick launch! Right click your slim jim (taskbar) and click on "Toolbars" then "New toolbar"

    STEP #7
Pop this in to the folder textbox (word for word!):
    Code:
    [COLOR=Red][COLOR=White]%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch[/COLOR][/COLOR]
    Click "Select Folder"

    STEP #8
Nowwww you have a shitty quick launch that looks worse than poop on a sad twig. Right-click that hoe and uncheck "Show text", "Show title", then click "view" and select "Use small icons".

...Not like I did here :p

    STEP #9
Move your quick launch to where you want it to be (click and drag that section of studded dots around). In the end, you should have something like this (image is big, click the link to see it):

    http://i45.tinypic.com/2r7oo6v.jpg

Move on to fix MSN, or stop here if you don't feel like it.

    STEP #10
Right-click any MSN shortcut you have, or the MSN EXE itself, and click "Properties"

    STEP #11
Check off "Run in compatibility mode" in the "Compatibility" tab, then select Windows Vista (service pack 2 is best).
    Click Apply :D

    STEP #12
If you followed the entire tutorial, your final result should have the following features (without the red squares of course):

<3 this guide. Steps are easy to follow, and the pictures help. I also like that it isn't one of those shitty "click here, install this" guides, but actually explains how to do this within windows. On a more personal note, my Windows 7 now no longer has a shitty taskbar that takes forever to do stuff on (it was getting on my nerves how it always combined all my windows into one, especially because I usually have like 5 firefox's open).

Great guide, overall, and it was extremely helpful :D

If you do that, then you end up having the same useless shit you started with.

Nice guide, but I love the new way Windows 7 is piggy. It's nice because I can quickly go through like 500 billion conversations I have since im so popular at school and shit. Then it doesnt take that much space so I can actually see all my programs without the scrollbar inside the taskbar, etc.

Never knew you could do this though, especially since you complained about how you couldn't do it on MSN a while ago :p

I just couldn't stand how your open windows would combine with your makeshift quicklaunch thing.

...No, you actually change the way the taskbar operates.

Good guide I guess, but I like windows 7 just the way it is.

I like having all my tabs combined since I have so many open at once.

Good guide though. The images and steps are to the point. You might wanna explain why changing somethings is better though.
