8 year old suspended for drawing Jesus.

Yes jesus is related to Christmas. Its his birthday one of the most holy christian holidays. This is wrong and if i was parent i see a law suit

Christmas is a religious holiday. Don't blame an eight year old with very little sense of rationality when he draws a picture of Jesus.

I know, but the guy above also said it's Christs birthday. Anyway, I wrote that in response to some guy asking who Isis and Great Mother were. I'm just saying, the celebration of Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox came before Christmas and Easter, and so if asked to draw something, I'd draw Eostre or Isis.

Anyway, did anyone consider that the reason they suspended him was because the cross was a form of torture? If I were to draw someones head in a guillotine, I'd most likely be sent to a school psychologist in 2nd grade (I did and I was, lol), so why is this any different?

That wouldn't accomplish much. Bad reputation is not that bad. If I were the parent, I'd file a law suit against the school.

 

This has something to do with Christmas in terms of what people think, but it's blatantly obvious that Christmas is a Pagan celebration (no, I'm not joking), thus it is only abstractly related.

Well, in any case, he should be allowed to draw what he wishes. When I think Christmas, I think terribly boring.

 

Denode is right. Christianity is a new religion, not an old one, and none of the holidays that Christians celebrate were theirs originally. In fact, almost all the holidays that you currently celebrate came from pagan/druidic tradition.

Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Spring Break... All have traditions dating thousands of years before the stories of Christ.

As for the kid being suspended, I completely agree with it. Public schools are state funded, and religious dogma being allowed in the school is a violation of the Separation of Church-State Mandate. The child, though young, must learn to keep thy religion to thy self, and his parents should teach him the real truth of this 'Christmas'. It's better to suspend the kid, than risk others getting the same idea, and associating it with Christ as well... wouldn't want our youth today to continue to be stupid .

I'm fine with keeping religion out of school, the last thing kids need is to be force fed by administrators a bunch of bullshit. But that's just ridiculous, it's a harmless drawing.

I do think it's wrong to suspend the child though, he wouldn't of known what the consequences were.

 

Thats really f'ed up, he was probably taught by his parents that Jesus died for us and that he is the reason why we have Christmas so he drew it because thats what he thinks about when he thinks of Christmas.

If I was a teacher and I asked my students to draw something about France and one of them drew Marie Antoinette at the guillotene, I might call their parents, or something, but I wouldn't waste everybody's time by getting a psychological evaluation and expelling the student, especially if it came to light that he had visited France and recently learned about this (just as the child in-question visited the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette).

You mean "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"? This is completely unrelated to that, as the teacher asked them to draw something about Christmas (a christo-pagan celebration), and the child draw a picture of Jesus. The first amendment was not intended to forbid all forms (no matter how miniscule) of religious practice from public areas, but rather, to ensure that the United States didn't setup an "Official" religion, as had happened in England. Your comment also makes no sense because this (presumably) happened in England, which has an Official Church.

 

That is pathetic taken to the next level.

Jesus, why are people so uptight and ridiculous about things like this (excuse the pun )? It has EVERYTHING to do with Christmas, isn't the Christmas story based around the birth of Jesus Christ. That picture depicts Jesus very well, its impossible to not know who that picture is of. I think the people who chose to have this poor kid psychologically evaluated should be psychologically evaluated themselves! If anything, the child should have been told that putting X's where Jesus's eyes should be could be found offensive by other people, therefore it shouldn't be done. The school have clearly blown the situation out of proportion.
