Known scams thread?

I am suggesting we make a sticky thread in multiple market sections that contain known scamming methods for users to look out for when trading. There could also be a section for that in the rules for people to see before engaging on the website.

This thread will teach new traders what to look out for and also teach some of the users on this site who aren't familiar with some methods.

There could also be a thread on the forums somewhere for users to make others aware of new scamming methods etc, that way the main thread is always being updated with new methods.

 

There will always be those who skip reading everything and just hop into things but for those that do take precautions and actually do read the threads.. I think it will be worth it.

 

You want to make a guide on how to scam someone?

 

Lol I want to keep people informed on ways they can be scammed. Yeah scammers can turn that information into something malicious but no one should be getting scammed by any of the methods because it will be common knowledge or at least in my mind it will be.

 

This information you're talking is probably already public public knowledge (there are no secret scam methods).
So the purpose of such threads (presenting scam methods in an organised fashion) would be to create awareness, not only to scam victims, but also to scammers.
I think the weigh-off of having such a thread is, therefore, whether it will be more beneficial to scammers or scam victims. Personally, I don't have a clue and I feel like someone with a social sciences background is better equiped to answer such questions.

Some relevant subquestions on answering that weigh-off can be: how many scam victims actually read sticky threads/go check on Sythe before actually trading.
Or what will be the substance presented in this thread? For instance, if you present data on which scams have a high succesrate, I see that info mainly benefiting scammers. From a policy-technical point of view, I believe that OP should give an example of such a thread (explaining what info should be entailed and why it is betted than Status Quo) for this discussion to be more in debt/meaningful.

There is nothing stopping you from making a guide, or a few guides. I am sure if they are good enough, staff would be more than happy to sticky the threads for you.

Agree with this. I’ve also wanted to make guides on how to catch ban evaders before but never done so because it would educate ban evaders aswell how to ban evade more successfully.. They probably still find out so long as we have to make public reports though.

I do think some of the stickies would fit better elsewhere (such as in the actual Guides section) but then again people are too stupid to educate themselves properly before trading.
