I wanna do a little exercise. Please be as srs as you can on this topic, and post as accurate answers as you can. I would have posted this in the SFA section, but the debate will only come after people have done the exercise.

Ok, pretend you're a U.S. citizen; and if you already are, pretend you're an adult with a job, and are paying taxes. Now, a base of what you pay is already taken from your paycheck, and even though you notice money gone, you have no clue where it went, or what exactly your money was used on. Once a year, you file a piece of paper, and depending on how much you gave, and what you own/did for that year, you'll either get some of the money you gave away back, or you'll have to pay even more money straight out of your pocket.

Now pretend someone is at your apartment door, *knock knock knock*. You answer the door, and there is a man standing before you in a blue suit. He has a clip board, and his hair is slicked back. He looks at you and says:

"Hi, I'm with the IRS, before you run away, I'm here to tell you that we've decided to reform our policy. We're no longer going to make you pay for things you don't use, and we're going to let you choose what your money goes towards. Naturally, a few things will automatically be taken out in order to support the military, and police force, but you can choose anything else that you no longer wish to pay for."

You invite him into your home, excited to give him an earful, and sit him down with a nice cup of coffee. Fortunately, your apartment was recently cleaned, and he doesn't mock you for condoms and beer bottles lying around.

So, now you're face to face with a man from the IRS asking you what you do not want your taxes to pay for. You may not choose to not pay for the funding of the men and women in the military, and you must continue to pay for your public government like the police force, IRS, FCC, etc.

    GO!

If I dont have a son/daughter in public school, then that. If I dont have a elderly relative then social security, if I am not close to retireing then pension.

I'd tell him to talk to the government to legalize marijuana and other petty drugs that won't cause massive deaths. Hence lessening the amount of drug dealers and whatnot in jail hence lowering the amount of prisoners, lowering the amount of money spent to pay for prisons and allowing prisons to be torn down making room for other things.
Social security will most likely not be around for us when we get to the age to collect it because the economy would have changed too much by then.
So... I suppose I'd want my taxes to go towards the education system and for sick, maternal, and paternal leaves in the working world. So that people could leave for say a year to take care of their children rather then putting them in a day-care.

    I wouldn't probably fund anything.
    All programs seem useless.

Interesting topic, i'm Taxed at 40% over here in the UK, i'd love my taxes to not goto lazy benefit thiefs and the Dole office, I'd be happy to pay for the military, NHS and just about anything else that gets paid for. Just not the scamming benefit thieves.

But in all seriousness. This would never happen at this time.

Oh and also i'd like my taxes to not goto the stupid fucking MPs that claim over £30,000 on decorating there homes and second homes, what the fuck is that all about..
