maybe they want them to be rarer, and only obtainable from combat/treasure trails

Black ore is not in existence, and I think it was supposed to be kind of rare back in the old days.

I believe it used to be made out of pure coal, but I'm not sure if I just heard that, or if it was true back in the day.

I read somewhere that black armor is just steel forged in a different way than normal steel. I'm almost positive jagex stated that.

It'll be a mystery. I remember asking the question about pickaxes and woodcutting axes, but look now. We might have an update.

That's like asking why can't you smith dragon legs and such? Or mine dragon ore? It's a certain item that they want to be rarer as people have already stated.

It's due to making it harder to obtain, rather than being obtain via ores and smithing. That's the case with dragon items, there'd be an influx if ore could be mined and armor smithed.

I am sure when "Black" came out it was rare at the time. However as usual time takes it toll and now its near worthless.

You can buy most of it from the Champions' guild. Maybe they never released it so that has a better reward?

    Who knows.
