    Lessening Scamming

    Hello,
I just wanted to get in a quick suggestion that could greatly reduce scamming, lol. I think Sythe should have verification levels, or "stages". I got this idea from rscheata.net, and they have S1, S2, and S3, S1 is PayPal account verification, Which is somewhat like the donations people give, and could be anywhere from $0.01 to $5.00, depending on what is decided. S2 is Phone # verified with the PayPal account, and address filed, Which will give the seller more trust. S3 will be Address verification, and the applicant will have to receive and send a letter to an admin or whomever is picked to do the verifications, and it will have to match the PayPal verified one. Then you could make it so there is a section of S1+ trades, S2+ trades, and S3 trades. Then Post Count, and shady vouches wouldn't come into consideration. Sorry about this not looking very nice, just wanted to get it posted. Post any comments or additions.

*Anyone who says this is a bad idea and doesn't give a reasonable explanation as to WHY its a bad idea, will be considered a spammer/scammer :p*

Edit: Lol, take note that now most of the people against this are now banned for scamming ;P And what I meant in the beginning was that it was OPTIONAL, just an added bonus. I don't really care anymore, it would just save a hella amount of money for some people, instead of using OMM's. And I think it also would be effective because I know if I was scammed for more than 120 dollars I would definitely go to the persons house (saying they are fully verified), and if it was less than 50 it wouldn't have been worth it to scam. I don't really care anymore :p

What about the ones who don't have paypal?

The whole things seems like a hassle, but if you take out the paypal part of it... While if the admins are willing to deal with it, I don't mind.

I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't want to give me information out to other members. Also, there is 185,990 members on Sythe, I don't think Admins would like to send and recieve 185,990 letters.

It not only for paypal, it could also be used for other money transfers, but the majority of people on here use paypal. What about for Pin trades? No one wants to take the time to get an OMM for a pin trade, and if pin sellers were required to have S3, they wouldn't scam. Also, not ALL 185K members are active, and most are scammers anyways and wouldn't even try to become verified. for every 1 good buyer i get for something i get 45+ scammers.

I still don't think the Admins would like to give out their address' so people can send them pointless letters.

Also, the part about giving info out out to other members, If your going to do a trade, your giving your info out to other members, and It wouldn't say the persons phone number or address in their profile, just that they have a certain level of verification.

No..Just no. We arent rscheata.net.. And people acknowledge who they are trading with and can choose whether or not to trade based on vouches, join dates etc..

We've considered various forms of verification, and even tried something like it in the past (or Thorpe did, anyway). The problem is that many users don't feel comfortable giving away that sort of information, regardless of their intentions. Additionally, it would take multiple staff to manage, there are easy ways around verification (ie, using a friend's address), and even with genuine information, there's not much we can do to respond to a scam. Hell, Sigex's information was posted for months, and it never got anywhere. There's also an issue of how much proof is required before we're willing to release personal information, etc.
