It really depends how big the trade is. If they send it as a gift in paypal, its not so simple to recover the money, but they still can. I'd say the safest way is just getting them to mail it to you, especially if its a big amount.

Yep I would assume a Bank transfer is safe, since they can't really obtain their money back unless its serious situation and willing to put a law suit down. Well thats how it is in UK. But should be safe using Bank transfer if you get some background information on them such as address and phone number.

I would take it, don't even think about taking paypal or anything else....

Maybe Western union where your guaranteed they can't reclaim their money, or money bookers used by alot of scammers XD.

If you have background information you should be alright.

Account number and sort code I believe.

WU is safe and so is mail. But mail will take longer depending on where you live. If you play pokerstars, I think that it is safe too...

Make sure that the Bank Transfer gets fully processed. After it is processed, give the item to the seller or request the Middleman too. If he is trusted, you can go first. That is up to you.

A bank transfer is one of the safest ways, but I would ask for physical proof of their identity and ownership of the bank account, and possibly send them a contract for them to sign (I'm unsure on how effective this would be). Western Union and mail are guaranteed safe, but most people don't agree to them as payment methods due to hassle or risk.

I strongly suggest you don't go with Paypal only because it's extremely insecure. I've heard that with Moneybookers there is no way to claim your money back. Is this true?
