Regarding the "Report a Scammer" section.

Well I was just looking around the forum and I see some complaints regarding the "Report a Scammer" section. I decided to take a look and see that there's about 23 pages of scam reports awaiting to be answered.

I do believe that that section has incredible importance that do require a good amount of attention. Lately there's been little activity in regards to support and it doesn't seem like any initiative is being done as the moderators assigned to the section haven't really done much. Looking at the archives, it seems like Sin is doing most (if not all) of the work.

I propose we assign more moderators that are willing to answer these on their leisure time and actually devote themselves to take the time and do it. There are currently only 2 moderators assigned and I feel like it's not that big of a risk or hassle in assigning more. I mean, most, if not, all, of the staff have a pretty good sense of justice and ethics so it's not so much of a trust/compatability issue. It would allow these reports to be answered quicker and make less work for the current moderators... I mean, with all these market promotions, it does seem fitting as they are supposedly, pretty skilled when it comes with the marketplace.

Regarding the "Report a Scammer" section.

I believe that all of the Market Moderators should already have Scammer Forum Permissions, and the majority of the Globals should be dealing with the Scammer Reports as well.

    I support.

I'm not saying they're not doing their "job".

I'm merely stating the chance that more productivity could come from assigning more moderators to that forum.

Regarding the "Report a Scammer" section.

New mods aren't allowed to get RaS permissions right away, or at least I wasn't. It took a good three weeks before Sin gave me em', but in all honestly I had been doing less complicated ones before hand. ;)

They may be skilled in the market, but not as a moderator. The majority of them don't know how to do IP searches or use the modcp(which is expected; they're brand new). Not to mention there are a lot of factors that contribute to making a warranted ban. You have to analysis the report and ensure all the screenshots are not cropped, the times are correct, etc. I reviewed a decent number of Sin's reports before doing some of my own.

Though I do wish a few of the experienced moderators 'jumped on board' and did a few.

You don't understand roy, sectionals can't see the ban list, can't perm ban, and can't do most of the scam reports just purely because of those reasons.

Well if they determine that someone has scammed, they can issue a temporary ban to the accused and request a perm ban right?

Just be like: Oh, ____ , ____, ____, ____ has scammed, issue perm ban.

Regarding the "Report a Scammer" section.

This isn't a new problem, RaS is almost always managed entirely by one or two mods. I just don't have time to manage it alone with any consistency anymore. (Although NickV and MegaMatt have been helping out)

As for Sectionals, they aren't supposed to have perm ban permissions (they have to request perm bans through Globals), so it's unusual to give out RaS perms; when we do, we have to make sure that they know how to correctly handle reports - it's harder to make decisions on lifting bans than issuing them, especially when the dispute isn't posted immediately.

Even so, scam reports are time consuming and often ambiguous. Most mods (including sectionals) don't like doing them, and there really is no way to force them. It definitely could be improved, but until we find a practical solution, it is what it is.

Why don't the sectionals just get a list of usernames and send it to an admin and they can just go and ban them?

That's pretty much what we do currently, but we could also just give them the ban permissions to do it themselves. The point is that we don't - they're not supposed to be able to perm ban, and so having them make decisions on scam reports would be somewhat of a contradiction.
