Does it make you a nerd to spend money on runescape?

Jaysive - Ha ha fair enough and straight to the point! But where does that stop, therefore membership makes you a nerd as well as paying for any game for a matter of fact even on a console.

 

Obviously it does, faggot. Spend it on something worthwhile, not a bullshit game. Get a girlfriend, get friends and go do something in the real world.

 

Nerdy? No. Risky? Yes.

If you're going to spend more than $100 on an RS account, make sure you get the full details (including IP/ISP used at time of creation) and are able to retrieve the account with those details before finishing with the payment.

This usually means the extra cost of a middle man and the couple hours wait for them to try and recover with that info, but in the end it's worth it.

 

Harped - Thanks but I wish you could have done it a slightly more mature way lol. You do realise that your response strengthens my argument? I don't want to spend my life on a game and thus was able to buy an account after 2 weeks of working. I now have MORE time to spend with my gf and friends than if I hadn't bought the account since all the skilling and money making has been done for me. I was always going to play this game but now I can spend less time on it and do what I want to do so it is a double bonus.

sektr - Thanks for the warning. I know it is risky and the account information should always be tested by the OMM/MM to see if it can be recovered. After all why spend money on an account you can't keep? I advise people to use WU though as a payment method. This way you get the full name and address of the person you are buying the account from. This is tested against a photograhic form of ID so they can't really trick you. Very useful ^.^

 

Well, i bought a wcin'g bot from rsbots.net so i can afk gp to sell on to my mates so to be honest i would say no.

 

Also to be honest i like to think of it as buying say, DLC for runescape just like you buy maps, characters, weapons etc for your xbox 360/ps3 ect games.

 

Well what else could you have done with your money? Possible saved lives in Africa are lost for the means of a pixel (or two).
Devoting 80 hours of your life to get the acc may seem like a bargain, but when you want a new iPod or you get banned you really have no backup plan.
I would use the gp to merch to max cash, then sell the gp but keep the account. So you make back part of your cash, which you can now donate to a charity or something.

 

Honestly, when i spent money on runescape, the money that was used was from selling other gaming items, from other games e.g. (Guild Wars), if done this way i really dont see it being nerdy

 

i dont think its nerdy... but you lose the sense of accomplishment if you dont train yourself =/ plus the guy can always recover the account

 

Lacey - In a way I have bought a bot. That 'bot' has trained my account for me and earned me the mils. But you and I have the same feeling about the game. We like the results but not the endless clicking to get them. Although you sell the mils right away I won't be until I quit ^.^

Mike - Very nice point. Yes saving lives is far beyond the worth of any game. But it is far beyond the point of any material possession and therefore buying a large home, a nice car ect would be in the same category as what I have done. This does not make it right but is true for all of us.

inpherus - You could call what you were doing a job that you enjoyed. You were able to play a game and earn money at the same time to spend on something else you enjoyed. I think this is pretty much what I am doing right?

Runscape_Mod - Yeh you do lose that sense. But whenever I got a 99 the pride came from showing it off afterwards not the months it took to get it. I have skipped all the dull parts and advanced to the point I enjoy. I like to be able wear an agility cape and ,although it does nothing, I feel proud to wear it as I now own the account and it is mine. As for recovering that is the worst bit... I can have all the info and be able to recover it whenever I want and yet not feel safe. But with an address and real phone number and name (needed to pick up payment by WU) I could always hunt him down =p

 

The only thing that should matter is your personal perception. If you think it is nerdy then so will I, If you think it is not nerdy then I too will think it is not nerdy. Why do others opinions matter if you are happy with what you are doing? If you are happy then that is all that truely matters, right?

I think not. Time is money, so I agree with your point. Instead of spending thousands of hours working on a Runescape character it's better to spend 80 hours on work and then buy your account.
If you where going to spend all those thousand of hours that it takes to train an account like that on working instead, you'd earn over £15000. And I believe it actually takes more that 1000 hours to get a maxed account like that.

So it depends the way you see it; if you like to see it as "spending an enormous amount of money on pixels", that might sound nerdy. But I think it's way more nerdy to "spend thousand of hours on pixels" than "spend 80 hours on pixels" because that's actually what you do.

But still, it's risky to buy Runescape accounts here. So be careful.

 

I think it's quite nerdy generally. But I all depends on how you define nerdy.

I play Runescape over day and at night I go to parties like normal people so I don't really see myself as a real nerd. But you shouldn't be afraid to be a nerd. Afterall you just do what you like the most. Why should you lead a normal life if you can't stand the pressure of having friends.

sindrefyn - True you coudl easily earn £15,000 if not more in the time it takes to make an account like that. I guess 80 hours > 1000+ hours right?

phatpete - Funny that you said about not being afraid to be a nerd. I watched a program last night that informed me that more people of high power are considered to be 'nerds' and in general 'nerds' are taking over in terms of power in this world. Obama for example loves to read comic books and was featured in one.

Of course it's nerdy, but it's not necessarily bad. It depends on how much enjoyment you get out of it versus what else you could have bought for that much money. Plus you can always sell it back.
Add: People who say "why not buy real life items" are fucktards. As I said, it all just matters how much you enjoy the product.
