[Denied] average gp rates should be easily accessible to the community

I thought of a workaround for this denied suggestion. [denied]Allow code words for rates in sythe discord [poll added on the 26/7/2021]

Instead of messing with the discord formula that seems to be working can add a sticky pc thread to Price Checks that can be updated regularly by users. This way current gold rates can be made public for people. Or a bot can be used to scrape the web and post average prices from gold shops and be posted to the thread via a vps on regular intervals.

Buyers and sellers can post the current rates and people would not need to dm others to just get a price. This would lower the amount of time people will need to find an average gp rate. Also it would reduce the amount of dms from customers just trying to figure out the average prices.

There can be harsh punishments made for troll posters or people trying to manipulate the market if they are caught trying to mislead people.

 

I think it would be cool if sites allowed an open API where their prices can be pulled from and the sticky thread could be automatically updated based on the average/high/low at whatever time between changes is ever decided.

For example you would get an endpoint for several websites for both RS3 and OSRS GP and then have the thread updated automatically based on the data that is pulled.

Just my two cents so 1.) you don't risk the troll posts and 2.) you're getting a good amount of data all in one place so you don't need to search and calculate highs/lows/averages.

Edit: Or we could just scrape the sites but if elements change then the code will need to be updated.

 

I agree with what you’re saying. There was actually a developer on this site who made a separate site to track off of every well known site. I don’t remember his name but he’s still here.

It's a good thought.
But it won't work, there is to big of a possibility to have a market manipulation going on with that.

people dropping their price on purpose during the API call time or the pricechecks incase they need gold so the average price would drop so they could stock in cheaper.
Or the complete opposit, make it extremely high so it looks like you got well under average prices.

To big of a market risk and no way to maintain.

 

Or we could stop being a bunch of bitches and just find a logical way to integrate rates back into discord instead of pussy footing around with “b 07” “s07”. (Voted on by people who don’t actively use the market and are scared of discord!)

anyone using the forum will be able to find out the average price by opening 3-4 gold flipper threads and being able to aprx/ask around for an average/cheapest rate so a price check thread wouldn’t do much its mainly the discord that needs change not the website so no support from me.

I think API manipulation could be circumvented if it's coded to be selective with it's data and exclude that which doesn't match a rolling average.

Also, if the interface shows an average gp rate of i.e. (0.50-0.55,) it can also be transparent about how it's getting this data, and users can use this information to make an educated decision.

 

You don't really need to even do this. The concept would be as follows for an example:

Site 1: 0.50
Site 2: 0.52
Site 3: 0.48
Site 4: 0.46

Lowest Site: Site 4 @ 0.46
Highest Site: Site 2 @ 0.50
Average Price: 0.49

Honestly if I was a goldsite I would be against it too because this suggestion would give any gold purchaser a one stop spot to pricecheck and find the lowest GP price. It would mean that they would have to be a lot more competitive than they are currently.

This is a great suggestion, full support.

 

No support there is no way this can be managed properly in a way that won't butcher the gold market.

As Pikachu said prices can really vary based off the needs of the customer, payment methods, amount needed and more.
There is no way any one number could reflect all these different needs.

Having a customer message you to check prices isn't a bad thing, even if you are annoyed by it there is still a much higher chance that turns into a sale than if no one messaged you at all.

The customer should be able to check different sources and make their own educated opinion.
Gold sellers like in any open market or sales field, should be able to drive a sale and negotiate with their client and offer something competitive. Having a value/bar set in advance would only make this harder.

Goldsellers are an important part of this website.

Also being a goldseller and already noticing how websites like eldorado and others that already exist and essentially control the fixed average market rates as it is has been nothing but a burden.

we have eldorado in place already where the majority of sellers already publish their prices
giving a great guideline as is

if, you'd only have to pull the value from eldorado x.91 and you'd be all set
it's the going rate and has proven 95% accurate over the past months
manipulations are minimal over there, due to a lot of major sellers actually dealing over there with the given prices

 

No support, this type of reform will result in the bigger flippers acquiring a monopoly-position. Here is why I think this may happen:

Smaller flippers need bigger margins to make profits. That's the harsh truth. They invest resources into advertising and other tools to do this. This money needs to be made back. Bigger flippers can afford smaller margins and they're guaranteed to profit. They will thus always outcompete the small flippers and there will be no reason for a customer to go for the smaller flipper as a direct consequence of this policy

A second concern would be advertising rights. As I understood websites will be named and their buy and sell price will be added behind that. Who will decide what website gets the best spot?

Third concern has already been pointed out: the accuracy of the set price. Crypto is volatile and Sythe would need a way to constantly stay up to date or it would put out misleading information (which is a bigger harm than all the gains that this reform provides).
