Expansion & Change of User Titles

Hello Sythe,

I am proposing a revolution that might shake things up. I think that there should be a larger variety of user title as your post count increases past 2,000 (grandmaster). What's the motivation for these "grand-master" members to keep active and posting? I mean, they are the "elders" in the community in a sense and it's natural that they would know their way around the community better and be more knowledgeable. Because of that, we value their posts. I think there'd be a larger increase in activity of these elder member which would benefit a lot of people. I mean, the chances for staff are slim (about 1 in 100+) and it's not ordinary for someone to donate enough to get a custom user title and there's nothing really to work for after reaching "Grandmaster".

Along with a larger span of user titles, comes spam. It's obvious there's always going to be those who "post-count" excessively. I understand the community being already pretty large but actually think this would make the community more appealing and spark more activity from many members.

In addition to expansion, I also propose change in the current user titles. As for as I know, these titles have been the same since and past the date of 07. Doesn't it ever just get tiresome of seeing the exact words excessively to the point where it annoys you?

Why not change it? What's the harm?

I think these ideas would shake things up among the community and maybe make things more appealing.

Although I'm not a Grandmaster, I agree with this

 

I think there was an issue about what people could put in their usertitles. As is, all usertitles are managed by the admins - mods don't even have permission to edit their own. Adding UT's for every grand master, and changing them on demand, would be a fair bit of extra work.

Not to mention, ranks, usertitles, and userimages are currently donation perks. If we gave them away just for high post count, there would be less incentive to donate.

 

Actually that wasn't quite what I was referring to. I was thinking we could add more "automatic" user titles past the 2,000 grand master.

Example: 5,000 Posts: Supreme Elder

10,000 Posts: Sythe Legend

As for the change, I was referring to the whole: Leecher - Member - Addict - Apprentice - Guru - Grandmaster cycle.

 

Last I checked I was 9th in post count... I've got 4.3k posts.... So. If you keep with the trend and double the grandmasters posts... only like 15 people will be affected... And many of them have custom ones... >_>.

 

Oh; in that case, I don't really know if that would make much of a difference to most users. I never even noticed my transition from "member" to "grand master" :s

If enough people care about it, though, I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a few higher ranks.

I was quite happy when I was grandmaster... I didn't notice how I got 2k more posts so quickly... Lol.... >_>.

We have gone over this before... We couldn't think of any good titles... That was the main issue.

 

Now why is that? Most members lose interest after they realize there's really no incentives whatsoever past 2,000. You say that many of them have custom ones mostly because they were all staff. Those people kept posting or stayed active because they were staff and it's somewhat motivating. Now what are the chances for that? Very slim. Let's be realistic here, 1/1000 (only mild estimation) members get a custom title, the rest of the 999 have the standard titles. Maybe this would help us (as a community) get more of these high-posting active members or motivate people to post more (in an effective manner anyways).

 

Someone with 2,000 posts is not going to be motivated by a new title, another 2,000 (or 3,000) posts down the line. Even with smaller increments, I don't think usertitles are really noticed by most people - they generally get more excited when they reach 1337 than when they hit a transition.

 

Why dont we put post a thread about what new ranks we should have?

 

It's true but a small strike of inspiration can lead to anything. Just the smallest spark might motivate some members. I mean, what's the harm in implementing it?
You set a few more, the system automatically changes user's titles accordingly without wasting any of your time.

Also, there's a part 2 to the suggestion (change a few of the auto-ranks).

 

Well. I would put a new one at 4000... And very few people reach that unless they are super active... And well known. So.

BTW: I found the post I got 1500th post on... Before that. I had 65 posts per month... After I had 277 posts per month 4.2 times more. O lol.

 

We should have a new one for 8,000

That would only be for your benefit as your the only one with 8,000+, if there was going to be another rank, there should be one at 3,500.

I don't think it is needed but if people want it then perhaps it would be worth doing. Im not a grandmaster or above and just managed to get my password sorted with thanks to sin666 and am happy to be back so Ive no need for motivation yet.

3500 sounds good, I'm eventually going to be a guru. Would be good to have something to motivate.

 

4,000. New one at 4,000. That would keep me motivated.
