Plagiarism needs to be a perm ban

I'm talking about Sythe.org allowing plagiarism to occur without a perm ban when it's the same as scamming.

 

I don't feel like reading 2 pages of replies at the moment so I will just reply to the original post.

Probably because they realized it's not a very big deal.

Judging someone's character by one of their flaws or actions is rather unfair.

Lowering Sythe.org's standards to a simple forum ban for plagiarism is garbage, but allowing garbage to be posted even more is not?

In your perspective it probably is, but you have to understand that we're not running a university here. This is mainly a BLACK market. What kind of people do you expect to be on a black market? There will always be those morons who plagiarize unintentionally and it doesn't help the community by banning them. Think of this as elementary school; if you plagiarize you just get a bad grade and a lecture.

Okay, how many scammers are there? How many people write guides? How many of those people plagiarize? How many of those people that plagiarized scam? Go ahead and do a ratio.

I'm personally not against this suggestion because it will work out both ways.

You're giving me ratio/statistic garbage when the idea is simple.

Users should be perm banned for plagiarism. You totally just beat around the bush, serving absolutely no purpose.

Sectionals cannot issue permanent bans. Instead, they submit a ban request through the staff lounge, and globals take care of it. Therefore, there can be a lag between when the ban is requested, and when it is issued.

Oh, I'm sure Sythe would consider it stealing. Pirating music is also stealing, but we don't therefore have a rule to ban every user with a ripped song on their playlist.

As for plagiarism being considered "stealing", over half the people on Sythe should be banned for "stealing" songs and software.

30 day ban is fine. Person ripped a guide, not killed a baby. All your post, Inventor, have mentioned how it's sickening to you, and you won't stand for it, or whatever, I don't see why. I know damn well you aren't being affected by plagiarism. If someone steals your guide on how to make an epic cheese, they deserve to be shot, in my opinion. Keep the 30 day. It's not THAT big of a deal.

Just a thought to think about... If I plagiarize on a paper for school... I'l get an F, a talking to, and maybe a suspension. I'm not going to be expelled for it though...

 

Do you not think a scammer thinks the same way as someone to blatantly and knowingly commits plagiarism? We're not talking about your school.

We're talking about what on a trade site such as this merits a ban. Self vouching merits a perm ban because anyone that would self vouch would scam to gain an advantage.

Plagiarizers are not scammers. Most of the people on this site are young and do not know any better... But scamming is obviously bad... So most people know that there will be punishment if they do it.

 

Are you really that blind? Staff like you obviously blow off the issue instead of tending to it when it comes down to voting time.

The fact is that a large userbase of Sythe are little kids (12 years olds and younger) and enforcing such harsh rules on them seems quite cruel. They don't fully understand why plagiarism is wrong, etc, therefore banning them would be doing unnecessary harm. The current system works fine. It shows people that ripping guides is unacceptable, yet it does ban them forever when they don't even have a full understanding of what they're done wrong.

 

It's not harsh to make them read the rules.

 

That's different. When I write a guide and someone copies and pastes it, I've lost nothing. If the person sold the guide however, and you resold it, then yes, they should be permanently banned, and they are.
