This is exactly how the system is on RSBot. When people report the posts, it goes to a sub-section within the Staff Section, and they are done almost instantly.

I'm pretty sure I've posted this once before, but I don't remember. However, there will probably be hundreds of pages, because then Staff might think that they don't have to do anything. :p

I'm tired of all the "volunteer" bullshit. Why did you accept being a moderator if you don't want to do anything? If you don't want to bother helping out the community by doing spam and scam reports, then I don't think you're moderator material. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should be forced to, but I think moderators should want to help clean the sections. [N]ick made a great point, if everyone just spent half an hour PER WEEK, the section would be clean.

(edit) I personally think you should start infracting people who falsely report, and the main focus should be on the Report a Scammer section.

Indeed, and most moderators are replaced in other forums.

Using your scenario, it's not necessarily the same people touching the stove so yes, you should fulfill your position duties. Honestly, I can't see how you guys can't spare 30 minutes at the maximum, more likely 20 per week.

We're talking 20-30 minutes a week here. Nothing big. The point of moderators are to moderate the site by removing spammers/scammers. You said, "we cannot afford to threaten active mods" but really some aren't active. They aren't doing one of the primary functions of their job efficiently.

You also mentioned how Sythe.org doesn't have a cap on Moderators. SuF stated above that five people cannot become moderators due to the lack of open positions?

If they do the requirements listed in this thread, it's fine if they are lazy the rest of the week. There wouldn't be any reports left to finish.

It's important to be able to recognize the moderators who actually do a substantial amount of work in reports.

Well said, for the most part. If you hate actual moderating (i.e. doing reports) why are you a moderator? There are other issues, yes, but again reports should be a priority. These are posts users specifically point out as useless or offensive.

Lol. I'm sure this thread will help that 8 month dead cause.

Who said mods don't do anything? Just because some don't do reports doesn't mean they aren't modding and taking care of other issues.

They're not so much false reports as useless ones. Is not reading the first post of a thread and offering something else spam? Well, yeah, I guess it could be considered irrelevant to the thread if the creator specifically asked for a different form of payment. Is it a big deal though? Not really.

Most reports are made with some understanding or belief that a rule is being broken; we cannot infract users for that.

No it's not. Knowledge of such results in topics such as this. It's better for us to not have to know what's going on in regards to other users, as it's not our business to administer them.

We can complain about what we don't see being done... so it only seems logical to remove that which we can see.

It's our business to give feedback to Sythe who administers the staff members. We are, in fact, customers viewing advertisements. As I said in the IRC, I hope your logic here isn't applied to other issues affecting the world. Let us be blinded...

The staff members are just members with special privileges. I see no reason why they should be treated as anything more than extra-trusted volunteers.

Requiring them to show us all the details of their logs would mean that all infractions of every member should also be exposed... for equal reasons :p.

Nick I said that you could find 5 good willing mods... You could suggest 10 or 15, and many of them wouldn't work out or not want the position. And. We might find a ton of mods for one section, and that section does great, but other sections that could use another mod might not get one... Moral of the story. Its hard to figure out who will be a good mod...

It's not hard finding someone that will be a good Mod.

The real problem is trying to find a good Mod that the Staff like. It's all a popularity contest on Sythe, and if the Staff don't like you, then you will get nothing. So, you basically have to do a ton of favors to get something, which is certainly not what users feel like doing in the least.

Would make people happy to know mods and or admins are dealing with the scamming issues at hand.

I wouldn't mind seeing this put into effect it will just make mods work a little harder they did agree to help the forums by accepting the duty as moderator

Seems like quite a few staff members just want the rank and nothing more. With the rank comes responsibility. If they can't handle it then they just need to give up their rank and go on with their lives. Its sad to see some mods working their ass off for nothing, and others just sitting back with their stupid little username, and rank.

Your case is completely different. You just continually posted in the SFA daily with extremely intelligent posts. You absolutely deserved to be a Moderator, as I'm fairly sure Sythe was the one who made such a decision; it being his most visited section.

However, I'm not even going to try and disagree with someone of your intelligence. I don't feel like getting mentally raped, when you're most likely correct.

Also, I finally get to agree with Cfrey! I agree completely on what you've said.

Also I'm tired of the "I have a life" excuse.

If you don't have the time to do something, why accept the offer for mod and take a spot that someone who CAN will fill?

Not to mention I've seen some mods claim they have a life so they can't be doing shit here, and then I'll hear them talking about "I just spent like 7 hours on WoW on my awesome lvl 78 rogue lololol"

honestly, in my opinion, these sets of requirements would make me feel MUCH more secure in my opinion about staff members.

    It even seems lenient.
