RuneScape email registeration

On runescape, it gives you an option to register an email. This is one of the greatest ways to ensure account security, no doubt.

HOWEVER,

What if you got hacked, something black market users seem to endure, and the hacker registered an email ? That would mean, essentially, the end of your runescape accounts ownership.

There is no way to cancel the email without knowing it.

This could be very dangerous, and a potential risk to Sythe users. Nonetheless, there is a thread on RS-Forums suggesting against this. The thread suggest that the emails be able to be removed, without the current email.

It would work, considering whoever is removing the email knows the account information, and the scammers are only getting the account by the email.

If you find this as a potential threat, post on the RS-Forum saying so.

register emails and do ur best to not get hacked scammed i mean if u do try to recov if they do this then ur right ur done for

 

The email verification code you get when you try recovering your account has very little help towards recovery. You make it sound like, if someone puts an email on your account, you're screwed, when in reality, it doesn't really help recovery.. Plus, you can remove it. Runescape.com -> Account management -> Email preferences -> Unsubscribe.

 

If you set your own recoveries, email, bank pin and contact details is it still possible for someone to hack your acc if they knew the previous recoveries/details/email ?

Very good thing to know when trading accounts...

 

The unsubscribe thing is only for receiving emails about products/features etc. That email will still be reg'd and you will still need to have access to both new and old to change it.

People want more security. People don't want to get fucked over if someone else registered an e-mail on their account. I'm not saying get rid of it, but twirk it a bit.

 

But, you kinda need recoveries and other things, I think JaGeX has thought it though.

 

I guess... If you're planning to sell the account, you'll also have to throw the email in there for free. To ensure safety

I bought an account on here and instead of removing the e-mail I got it changed

 

hahahaha.. yes it does help, it says that the email GREATLY helps during recovery on the recover an account page.. and now before you say "well jagex sucks, and they lie all the time" thats true, but then again, are YOU the one with the recovery system? thought so. so yeah it does aid you a bit with the recoveries, the main thing they are looking for is previous passwords and recovery questions, as what they wrote in the knowledge base. i got to do something right now but ill provide a picture soon.

see, they also wrote if you dont "know" the email you can skip that part BUT, you MUST provide ALL of the information requested
and btw you cant JUST remove the email, you have to know it in the first place. so if you have an email set, i would write it down in case you get beat with a baseball bat or soemthing and forget it.

thats somewhat right. i had this account, and didnt use it for a long time, i got hacked and the hacking nerd set EVERYTHING on it. i still got it back tho. he used to recover and recover until this email registration ACTUALLY took effect on the recovery query. now he stopped recovering. he got me some nice levels tho and a quest cape

 

Honestly, I dont think posting on the Runescape forums will change anything.


This will help out people who buy/sell accounts, *WHICH THEY WANT TO STOP ANYWAYS*.



So if anything, they'll just want to keep the email system in place even more.
