New rule: No posting of MSN/AIM screen names in threads/on profile. -READ-

If it was against the rules to post your MSN/AIM/etc. inside of threads/on profile, then it would force users to PM one another to exchange MSN/AIM screen names. By doing this, we eliminate many of the scammers from the start. While preventing the people who aren't registered on Sythe.org from contacting the seller, it also lets the seller know that the person who is messaging them on Sythe is definitely the person they're talking to on MSN. This takes away one of the precautions of selling: "Have the person you're talking to on MSN post in your thread". This would also reduce the amount of useless posts stating "I'm talking to XXXXXX on MSN right now" in each buying/selling thread. In addition to the aforementioned, users will receive A LOT less spam/non-serious offers. I realize it will be hard to force Sythe.org members to go through another step in buying/selling, but it is for their safety, and for the betterment of Sythe.org.

    :)

Then it would take ages to do trades because users are necessarily on Sythe the whole time they're on MSN/AIM/Yahoo!. Members just need to take the initiative and ask the simple question, "Can you please send me a PM?"

    It works wonders.

I've gotta be honest, it'd be difficult to enforce and as feren said, all you need to do is ask for a pm.

It seems people are concerned with how this rule will be enforced, so I have a proposition: Mods can suggest/encourage users to not post their MSN/AIM screen names in their threads/on their profiles, and instead request buyers to ask for them via pm.

If mods did this, then it would be up to the seller to decide if he wants to go through the extra step (which would provide more safety) in selling his account. Also, mods wouldn't have to enforce any new rules.

    Opinions?

Making a rule completely unallowing the posting of a way to contact someone outside of Sythe is rediculous. Moderators suggesting that users do not publicly announce their contact information doesn't seem too bad. All of the PMs would probably get annoying if someone was running a widescale service or market thread, though.

Too complicating, and it's unneeded. Just ask for a Pm nicely.

Idea filled with fail. In theory it could work, but that's a whole different issue. The idea is on the right track, and it is addressing a serious issue, so props to you for that.

+ posting aim/msn helps catch a lot of ban evaders. Without that, there would be a need for manual IP Checks all the time.
