[Approved] Disallow Luring Videos in the OSRS/RS3 Video Section

There's some guy who keeps posting his luring video and keeps trying to get people to talk to him,I myself have reported like 3 posts/threads of his so far,yet nothing happens to him other than a warning/thread lock.
I suggest we disallow this sort of content alltogether,as in my view it promotes scamming/is some form of scamming anyway,and I believe it has no place in this community.

 

I support this and have never liked luring videos being allowed. It is scamming although a game mechanic. I think it promotes something Sythe shouldn't be promoting.

 

Support. Luring is all built around "bringing" people into your team and just anti-luring and backstabbing. Really a shitty scene, shouldn't be let

Considering we've archived the old "Luring partner" stickies from multiple sections, I support this too.

Luring is a form of scamming people (deceiving them one way or another). Glorifying that seems wrong on multiple levels.

 

Support. I've never understood people who don't view luring as a form of scamming. People defend luring by saying it's "in game mechanics," but the definition of scamming is "using deception to deprive someone of money or possessions," which is essentially what luring is. Lures typically involve gaining the trust of a user, which is then manipulated into depriving said user of money or possessions.

Yes, substantively I think luring is a dick move, but I don't see why youtube videos about luring should be disallowed. Unless there is an overwhelming common interest by the community that does not want these videos posted, they are (sadly) just a bad part of the game that is also featured on YouTube. The posting of such videos is not malicious and is in conformity with Sythe rules.

 

I’m not in favor of his videos, but I also see no reason to disallow them aslong as luring non-Sythe members is still allowed. Let’s forbid luring all together, rather than just his videos.

Luring is scamming in all honesty. You're building trust with someone then stealing their items off them in an unfair way. I hate it and feel it shouldn't be a part of the community. Support.

 

The act of posting a video is not malicious, but the activity that is being promoted within the video is.
In my opinion, luring is scummy, and a form of scamming that is wrapped in a big bow to make it seem like it isn't.

 

Support, his videos are entertaining, but luring is no good for the community. I think it's time to move past it.

 

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on this. Lurers are no better than the typical scammer because at the end of the day whether you want to justify what they're doing due to another persons greed, it's still morally wrong and at the end of the day the only goal is to deceive a person to steal their money.

The luring community is filled with scumbags in general. I'll always support anything regarding the removal of this.

 

Ex lurer here. I support removal, glorifying and taking pride in a few clips of luring personally made me realize how immature that was at one point of my life.

People can justify it in any way they want but in the end it's a scam in all the ways you can explain it. I agree with others that mentioned lurers are typically scummy people

 

Presumably we're not talking about original lures/wilderness lures, and we're referring to social engineering type lures. One example of the former being mage bank lures, where teams would lure/bait people into multi back in the old days of Runescape.

 

The luring scene in todays age is 100% reliant on some sort of social engineering. A period of "convincing" where the anti scam is displayed to the victim in a few key ways for a lure to be successful

Don't think Sythe should allow videos of someone gaining another persons trust (regardless whether it's a Sythe user or not) just to deceive them for their bank. Users wouldn't be allowed to post videos of them scamming another, though it's not entirely the same, the outcome is, which shouldn't be promoted on here as that's not what Sythe is about.

 

Kinda hypocritical. You disallow account stealing with bans on twitch/spotify account sales, but allow actual scamming like luring.....? Both affect people inside/outside of Sythe. Kinda confused why this is even a thing lmao. If you're gonna allow people to boast of their luring exploits on sythe, then by all means let members sell stolen stuff too. I see little difference.
