[Denied] Auction forum

Requesting a forum for auctioning various things. Rules should be put in place so people don't backout i.e, the seller after bid has ended nor the buyer after bid is placed

It's really self-explainatory, any marketplace should have a place where people can auction off items. I personally have a list of items I want to sell but then do not care to wait for offers. Depending on the circumstances, it can be both profitable for the buyers and the sellers.

It's a proven method and I presonally predict will be quite active.

Here's a list of items i've sold via auctioning them. All of them were $0 with no reserves, and i am content with the outcome of the results:

Pretty easy support for this, good idea so long as rules are followed and the section remains heavily moderated. Only thing I ask, is it constituted scamming if a buyer or seller backs out or how do you decipher that?

 

How would you deal with people faking bids in order to either not sell the product to the best bidder, or to increase the price? for instance, an auction ending in 5 minutes and as a seller I dont think the price is right, so I make an offer from an alternative account or ask a friend to bid and 'win' to avoid selling it for a lower bid.
I think rules must be balanced too, if not selling when a bid is too low or not buying if you cant afford a bid you've made already will be a thing / rule to abide by, also this should be tackled to perfect the system. Otherwise people will be found abusing this from the start.

 

I support this. Not sure what the staffs view on this would be. Also @Lucas2710 people can fake offers for accounts etc. You just have to be cautious when trading.

 

You can report to mods who can request proof of payment / check IPs if you feel the bidding is rigged.

I support this idea, one man's trash is a another man's treasure. I have accounts/miniranks etc to get rid of.

 

I support this but think we need to figure out the rules beforehand.

Early thoughts:
-All posts are binding. A new thread is a commitment to sell, and a bid is a commitment to buy.
-Punishments for breaking the binding rules are a TWC for the first instance, an auction forum ban for the second, and a DNT for the third.
-[Something that prevents sellers from having their friends make fake bids and then just not do the deal] - can’t require vouches though, and this would be kind of annoying to police...

 

My reluctance is with how many threads will go into this auction section instead of our current sections. I imagine there's a large criteria of goods that can be auctioned off; so it begs the question: is it not better to allow auctions to take place in all the different sections we currently have, rather than making a separate sub-forum?

However, I do like the idea of making auctions binding to a set of rules that we can hold people to.

 

Yeah I was thinking about this early on. In a way, all our other forums are just really inefficient auctions; this would be different in that everyone is agreeing that they want a different approach to buying/selling. Almost like joining a high-stakes poker game because the rules are more attractive to all parties.

 

The problem with this is that it'll get flooded with people who are ban evaders who essentially will take ANYTHING offered for their accounts because they're going to recover them anyways. This'll draw WAY more account sales, but only sales that are incredibly low and the % of account sales that would come from this forum that are legit would be a small fraction I'd imagine. This in turn leads to a lot more scams, reports, and recoveries.

Trusted account sellers should be reluctant to post in this "auction" forum because as mentioned above, it'll be flooded with high valued accounts selling for a fraction of their value from new users who're all vaders looking to sell for small % and recover for the value people put on the accounts. This'll lower the potential price trusted people will get for their accounts.

Not to mention, this'll cause a LOT more work for staff. You'd have to monitor EVERY completed auction that it is paid, paid on time, and paid with a method they can do.

I can already see the # of reports for people bidding on a thread they don't end up paying for, bidding for an account and they only have Paypal when the seller can't take Paypal, users who make a report because its been 6 days without being paid and can't contact top bidder etc.

Only way I'd support this is if there is a FIRM requirement on # of vouches required to post in this thread (as a seller). Otherwise, no support. Also, you'd need things like TWC for bidding and not purchasing etc. Have fun staff. Lolol

 

I love the idea of auctioning off items\services\accounts. However, I'll always be paranoid as a buyer. There's absolutely no way to check, as far as I know, if someone is having a friend, who doesn't use Sythe ever, from placing fake offers to raise prices. If there's a way to regulate this, I'll support

 

You're always welcome to add rules of auction in your thread, example; user must have registeration of 6-months in order to bid. Further rules can be added based on your requirements.

 

I suggested some guidelines for punishments early up in the thread, but I agree we could require that the OP state what they want in a trade (payment method, a trusted bidder with xyz specifications, a MM, etc.) in the OP and any bids MUST meet those specifications.

Things like gold can be sold to pretty much anyone for btc, but as you said, accounts are hairy. Maybe we don't allow account auctions? But honestly auctioning vs. selling regularly isn't going to change whether or not people recover them. The risk in not allowing account auctions is that doing so might kill the section since accounts are probably gonna be the most commonly-auctioned things...

I don't mind seeing something like this being implemented. I'd assume it would take place in each specific market section rather than having it's own sub-forum to avoid clogging unrelated items with each other as Gladiator mentioned above. As far as the concerns with people abusing it goes we could just put in punishments that scale well similar to the RAS with a mixture of a TWC/DNT on x offence (since people trying to abuse it wouldn't care much about a short temporary ban in the grand scheme of things). The specific rules/regulations could be figured out when the time comes, but I'll support this for now.

 

I agree with having an auction forum in each of the market section. This would be the best way

 

We currently allow auctions but will not be adding additional 'auction forums'. If you are to create an auction thread, you mustt post a clear TOS. Users found backing out of the agreement or manipulating auctions (friends posting, fake bidding, etc) will be given a TWC.
