[Denied] Stricter CSGO Selling rules

I've noticed alot of threads are being bumped with either their OP showing proof of the skins/knives they have already sold (they even mention this in the post), or them saying we should contact them privately to see what other skins/knives they have for sale.

As for actual proof of their skins/knives they often provide proof of a cropped picture only showing the item, which can be easily faked if only you would screenshot someone else's inventory.

Now I know alot of people have their inventory set to private due to the scambots adding you, but I do think the requirements for proof could be made clearer and more sufficient.

My suggestion therefore is to request proof for items as shown below. This can be easily prompted by:
- Opening up the Steam site/client.
- Going to your inventory on the website.
- Clicking "Trade Offers" and "New Trade Offer.."
- Select one of your friends, select CSGO in the dropdown menu.
- Write down your Sythe username in the message box confirming it is.

Surely this can be abused aswell and while this may seem like some hassle, we require alot more for the proof of Steam accounts.



The current rules just don't make much sense for items/skins. If we're gonna require proof we should require actual proof, and not something that's basically as easy as copy/pasting a Google image.

 

I don't see any downsides so I'm going to support. Sure, it's not a foolproof suggestion, but is certainly a step further in the direction of "keeping honest people honest."

I'm curious to know how many scam reports are created in any given time for CSGO (let's say within a year). Can any staff provide their experience in regards to this?

 

We aren’t seeing any scams from people faking the items they currently own so this would just be a thorn in sellers feet. No support check out my csgo suggestion to really benefit the section.

 

Thing shouldn't need to remain the same if nothing goes wrong. Just improving the guidelines is never wrong.

 

Overly policing the forum isn't beneficial, you know this better than anyone? Why change a system if it isn't broken. like I said before the structural change that's needed to benefit the section is posted on my suggestion.

 

Bought over 50k$ in CS:GO skins on trading forum (Like Sythe) and never had a problem with someone that didnt had the item.

Anyway before buying a high tiers you ALWAYS inspect it in game/add the person on steam, and for this you need to have access to the person inventory.

We've had 30-40 CS:GO-related reports in the past 12 months. I would guess that less than half were due to this issue.

Useful context, thanks. Is there a way to update the guidelines that is 1) easy for people to do and 2) safe for traders? If you have a brief description of what you do to stay safe that may be all that's required here.

Obviously having everyone post perfect proof of everything as @Wortel suggested would be ideal, but the fact is that people don't read rules and people make sloppy posts. If we can have a "guide to staying safe with CS:GO trades" that is more effective than a mod posting "please show pictures of your items" on every thread then I'm in favor of that.

 

In my opinion , easier way would be , if you want to sell on Sythe, you need to be part of the Sythe steam group


Easy to see if the steam profile is on Sythe (Maybe a new steam group for this?)

And steam Inventory Public

 

Takes 1 min to fake somthing like that so this woudnt really help.

But as David alredy said when trade happens you always add seller inspect inventory / weapon + use MM

This over policing hall monitor approach is not beneficial.

If you really want to look into the other flaws in this suggestion as Sh33dy has brought up it can be easily faked so this suggestion wouldnt even deter scammers anyways. 99% of the time if you are purchasing a skin that is very highly priced you trust the individual who you are buying it off anyways.
Sellers generally always post links to their current trading inventory as well.

 

One thing I would like implmented is a safe trading guide, there are alot of users who have accidently leaked their API key

as a trader you can stop them from getting scammed by linking a safe trading guide

You can also require public inventories & link your steam account

 

Adding a guide to keep yourself safe would be good, such as a guide on API keys and deleting them if you didn't make them yourself

 

I'm going to offer support. It seems like an improvement to the current guidelines that we have.

 

We're not going to make the CS:GO rules stricter right now.
