    Young people do get affected, but there is a 2% chance that younger people would be in actual harm from the virus. It would just be like having a bad cold or flu for those who are under the age of 60 and have a good immune system without having any other underlying diseases or complications of health.

    Nope. Basically guaranteed no at this point. Experimental drugs are being tested, as well as unexpectedly... HIV medication. There are already trials for vaccines in the works as well and the first tests are being conducted. As well, it's a bit overblown. It doesn't effect the average person as much as it does the immuno-compromised or the elderly/already ill with something like diabetes or heart issues. The average completely healthy person has very little to worry about. (unless you have asthma.)

    https://www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-covid19-repurposed-treatments-drugs

    I don't think it'll even come close. Treatment tests of all kinds are being conducted including plasma transfusions from recovered patients (something I think will contribute a lot, personally, will be those who recover from it esp more than once's blood/plasma). Stem cell treatments are already being used to cure fucking HIV, if not come extremely close to curing it, so I don't think doing something similar with COVID-19 will be too hard.

    SARS and MERS were far more deadly, but less contagious. This coronavirus (in same family as SARS/MERS mind you) is far more contagious, but overall COVID-19 is less deadly. It really only kills 60+ year olds, people with underlying conditions (the immuno-compromised for example) like diabetes or heart conditions, high blood pressures and whatnot. Asthma as well. It does have a higher death rate than originally projected I believe, but the majority (vast majority) of people are recovering.

    KEEP IN MIND AS WELL, the amount of deaths in China are hardly from any healthy people. China's air quality is pretty fuckin' pure shit awful, and a lot of the victims of COVID-19 that were "healthy" and died anyways had damage from the air quality. Or they were smokers. So breathing fresh air really fuckin' helps here. Also so does not smoking. Obviously. So if you're a smoker of some sort that really doesn't help your case here either haha.

    Someone like me would have it and it'd be just like the normal flu, because that's similar to what it is. The flu we know, as well as the common cold, are also coronaviruses. Coronaviruses are also zoonotic... meaning this one more than likely did come from a wet market in China (presumably a bat corpse). However this being zoonotic means more opportunity for testing, which I think is better in the long term. It's already been identified to a coronavirus in armadillos, which had a like 99% or some match, so animal testing is not going to be an issue.

    Coronavirus (so yeah, zoonotic)

    I don't think we'll be waiting more than a year for this to be solved, personally. Vaccines are already in the works, the strain's already been identified completely as well as testing pretty well under way... doubt it. There's about no chance of us going extinct from this.

    In the future? maybe. Especially if anti-vaxxers become a thing, lol, bye bye from smallpox/measles or some shit. But COVID-19 will be controlled soon undoubtedly.

    Just my thoughts, but I think anything comparable to extinction is a real big stretch. We might suffer a lot of deaths, but it will be the sick and the elderly for the most part. Young kids are hardly even getting it let alone dying (don't think any deaths have happened to the 0-9 age group, and there's like 1 in the 9-17 group? some shit like that). :)

    No, but it will drastically negatively effect humanity. It's likely that millions will die and many cases of hardship will be the aftermath. Worse, these consequences are preventable ... we knew that coronovirus was a liklihood, yet we failed to prepare.

    We knew when the first few cases started to show up. Then the cruise ship. All airports and borders should've been closed. This "Social Distancing" bullshit is just prolonging the inevitable. Our governments failed us and now we have to pay the consequences.

    I find it extremely ignorant but obviously very much expected from humanity to disagree with the governments ruling and know it all better.

    There's nothing ignorant about it. Wouldn't you rather have a proactive government? They have done nothing to slow the spread of this disease and all of their citizens are paying the price. Up until a few days ago normal citizens in the United States couldn't even get tested. We have known about this virus for months, yet we let it spread and take control when we had all the time in the world to contain the virus.

    There's been alot more viruses going around compared to this one, and some of them never touched or affected our own countries. As far as I can tell the virus is taken very seriously (perhaps even too seriously) atleast in my country. After all, we've only learned of the virus and it's symptoms by time. Going on full lockdown will only delay the process, therefore I'm in favor of our countries policy to go for group immunity.

    @Wortel
    @Time Crunch

    The virus was expected before it even transferred to humans. Science has known about the risk of coronavirus for years. Specifically, the risk of this virus was known since the Chinese outbreak. A fast track to group immunity will result in an overload of our health care systems and many preventable deaths. Social distancing doesn't just prevent the inevitable (progression to endemic), it also SAVES LIVES. It's not that hard to understand. Look at Italy. See how the deaths from yesterday are less than deaths from two days ago? That's due to social distancing. Sure, many government and people did not respond promptly. Anyway, the question you need to ask yourself ... do you value the lives of our most vulnerable people ... the elderly, the sick, the poor? If you're a decent person, the answer is yes. Then, take proper precautions.

    I'm not sure what country you're from, but going into lockdown doesn't DELAY things, it STOPS the virus before it has a chance to infect everybody. Group immunity's great when you can vaccinate, or when the disease isn't fatal, but wouldn't you rather stop a disease while the death toll is in the thousands BEFORE it goes into the millions?

    It can only be stopped once a vaccin is found though, and that seems to take a while still.

    Will the coronavirus extinct humanity?

    There’s a few medicines that’s being tested at the moment.

    One is a French Anti-Malaria tablet that has so far proven to stop coronavirus being contagious after 6 days at a success rate of 75 %.

    The other drug is an American HIV drug, I don’t believe they’ve released many results yet.

    To answer your question definitely not.

    When you look at the characteristics of a virus and when they initially break out they are always much more aggressive and kill a lot of people in the initial 6 months. Over time the virus will adapt to become much less aggressive as it realises it needs a host to live and if it kills its host then it too can not survive.

    Alongside that there is trillions if not billions of dollars worldwide being pumped into find a cure. The issue is time and how long it takes to find , test trial and get a drug approved. Could take years. The issue then becomes the availability of ventilators (breathing aid). It is said that 70% of people infected by coronavirus will need a ventilator to help them breathe. The world, let alone a single country don’t have that amount of ventilators to cope with those types of numbers.

    Lots of people will die as we are all seeing but definitely no to it wiping out humanity. That will come from natural disaster or nuclear warfare.

    They are saying that survivors are building immunity to virus so doubt. There has been far worse diseases in the world even malaria it's said to have killed 50 billion people in its entirety of existence. Even Spanish flu couldn't wipe humanity and it was in times where there was no technology they just let people die.

    Im sure will be second wave of Coronavirus if they don't find vaccine for it, or people will start robbing and killing each other for food in my country they already started robbing stores and its been few weeks in quarantine.

    I will for sure die if I get corona cause my immunity is shit simple cold kills me.

    also there is herd immunity thing google it

    Let's say 100m get infected thats 2m deaths so 2% is still big number.

    Maybe people need to stop eating bats :) first ebola now this and all cause some mentally challenged asian can't stop eating bats (and I'm not being racially racially diverse most of the disseases spread from either Asia or Africa that's fact) they need to increase strictness of what they sell on markets why is it even legal to eat bat animal that contains most viruses and diseases.

    Nothing will ever extinct humanity. Humanity these days is smart enough to always survive. Also the corona virus mostly kills people who are already sick.
