On the contrary, more people use .Net than they do the old version 6.

Visual Basic 6 was released in 1998. It is outdated. .Net 3.5 / Visual Studio 2008 was released in 2008, hence it is the newest version. .Net is a newer technology, and the framework is better. It is simply better overall - If I was to give you a list of improvements it would probably go on for a loooong time.

I thought VB6 didn't run on a framework, but instead a series of DLLs and other libraries?

It has runtime libraries, yes. These libraries have been packaged with Windows, but eventually Microsoft is going to stop supporting them (probably in Windows 7).

I will point out that at least .Net 2.0 is usually packaged with Windows too. Vista has version 3.0 by default on my install disc.

    I believe 2008 is better.
You can easily create your own controls and it has a large variety of items and controls to choose from.

I would choose 2008 for all of the autos you want for more advanced, multi featured programs.
