Weird first time buy on a popular website (osrs)

So it's been the first time i bought gold on chicksgold.com

I'm just a little bit confused after this trade.

So i placed my order paid with paypal and asked the livechat how long it takes to validate.
After a while he responsed that he sees the order and that we can proceed if i send a paypal receipt and my phone number for quicker validation.

Long story short, that's what i did. I'm kinda new to the blackmarket scene and haven't witnessed all the weird stuff yet.
As paranoid as i am, i gave them my second phone number which is not connected to any of my bank accounts or websites or w/e you can imagine.
So after a while i got a call and was asked my name (explained to valid that the paypal payment is mine)
and what my user name on chicksgold.com is.

I've received my gold very quick, in total it took like 15mins, but yet im sitting here still confused why these steps were necessary.
Could someone explain me?

 

I'll leave an official message to either @coldchips or @Chicks if they feel the need to reply here, but this is just a security precaution as it's very easy to chargeback/dispute money via PayPal. The call via PayPal is new to me too, but I wouldn't be too surprised this is part of the verification to ensure you won't dispute the payment and claim you've never received what you have bought there - which happens quite often, trust me.

Gold selling sites commonly ask for additional validation to protect them from the horrible world of Paypal's chargeback system. With Paypal making it so easy to counter payments these methods of validation become an unwanted necessity. None of the sites want to do this, but it's what they have to do to protect themselves and be able to conduct business. There are payment methods , such as Crypto, that require no validations though. However in order to purchase crypto you have to go through these validation methods on those exchanges, like Coinbase for example.

This is why we are seeing some very large sites ditching PayPal, and other feeble payment methods. Amazon being the largest recently worth mentioning.

 

Alright, yeah it does make sense now. It was just confusing, but now explained i can understand it. One to charge back could negate the profit of another trade or even multiple trades.
