I worked for the 1st day in my life

Hey Sythe members, I'm a few years over 21, I worked a day in a cafe 8am - 4pm I woke up at 5:50 am to get there. Let me tell you I did not ever think manual work would rip me an ass hole so fucking big I wouldn't be able to walk home and have to call someone to pick me up, I couldn't walk.

What I done while being there
    - Front and Till work
    - Washing plates and stacking them for the chef
    - Helping the chef in the kitchen by putting stuff in the oven on timers / getting tomorrows prep done etc
    - Taking food out to customers
    - Wiping down tables and taking plates back to the kitchen

Out of the 8 hours I worked there I got a 30 min break, and was able to smoke and drink something before having to go back and endure the gruelling tasks above, not 1 time was I able to sit down through the 8 hours.

    Issues I faced after work
    - Unable to walk
    - Fingers burnt from dish washing and stacking hot plates, knifes etc
    - Burns on my hands from making hot drinks
    - Back pain

    What I'm asking
How do I stop the aches and pains in my feet? and is it really worth working a labour intense job, should I be looking for alternative options? I work two days a week and its my first day and don't want to go back.

I have a new found respect for people who work a labour intense job and my hat is off to you all

    Help me Sythe thank you

    Practice makes perfect.
Get in shape, eat well and get enough sleep.

The muscle ache will dissappear after a while. The burns i cant help you with, but if its that bad, maybe ask the employer for gloves.

No harm in looking for other employment while you do what you do now. Money and job experience is never a bad thing.

Thanks for the reply, I'm a big guy but I wouldn't say I'm out of shape by any means, I guess it was really just a wake up call I wasn't expecting, You're right I do need to eat better and get sleep, I've been deprived of sleep due to my long hours on sythe buying and selling and gaming. I am going to look for other work as I'm not sure If I'm cut out for it to be honest but will continue to go in and work to gain the experience for sure until then. Thanks again @BatteryFrsh

Your body can and will adjust but it may take time. You're likely doing actions and using muscles that haven't been used for a while. As an example, I had to start wearing heavy steel-toed boots recently. I could hardly continue walking in them after 5 minutes, but after a couple of weeks the muscle soreness went away.

Addressing your other concerns: I felt the same way about not wanting to return to work. When I was being trained for a job, I dreaded having to wake up and go to the work. I was definitely uncomfortable in my role. It ended up being the best job I've ever had.

I'm comfortable saying most of us have worked retail. It's important to be exposed to an environment where you're working with others and dealing with customer service. Despite the fact it helps you grow as a person both professionally and personally, it humbles you knowing that it's not something you want to do for the rest of your life.

For sure I can relate with the shoe situation and think its partially down to that, someone who works there said the same thing that its probably because I've never used the muscles before hence the aching, also touching on the shoes again the same person said everyone that's worked there had the same issues wearing the shoes, I got the job to try something different, but I understand it takes a while to change and adjust to your surrounding / settings so will defo give it a try and hopefully it turns around and I enjoy it.

As previously mentioned, it all comes down to letting your body adjust to the change. You're using muscles, tendons and ligaments more than what you're use to and therefore putting more strain on them over a prolonged period of time. I work in a hospital, my shifts range from 8 hours to 18 hours a day, 5-7 days a week dependant on demand etc. It took me roughly 3-4 weeks for my body to adapt and the aching and soreness to go away. It's very similar to starting the gym for the first time, delayed onset muscle soreness occurs but the more you exercise, the less severe it is as your body begins to adapt.

Some advice is having proper posture, wearing shoes that are comfortable and offer better support and shoes that fit correctly. It is important to help your body adjust as much as possible as these things can lead to misalignments in the ankles, knees, hips and your back alongside plantar fasciitis which all can lead to problems down the line for you. Just keep at it, get good rest and you'll find it easier and easier as the weeks go on.

you get more desensitized to hot shit the more you touch hot things, same goes for leg issues

also, keep in mind you might have started on a bad/busy day and not all days are that bad

It will be better with time. I used to do similar job to this and this is what can i say:
    - Different shoes (i see you did this already)
    - Watch your posture! The pain should go away but if not then you should look up a masseur or chiropractor
    - Wear gloves when washing dish (idk if you did already but it worked for me, my fingers didnt burnt after wearing it)
    - Keep your head up. Now you will respect these type of jobs and you will be more motivated to improve yourself and get better jobs in the future.

Congratulations on your first day at work :)

My first job sounds a bit like yours :)

Here's some tips I'd like to share that actually helped me out!

    1. Comfortable Shoes - MANDATORY! Long hours on your feet and lots of activity require a good pair of shoes, this will probably help with the Sore legs & Back pain.
    2. See if you're allowed to use Washing Gloves for Washing / Drying Dishes - This helps not only yourself, but you'll be promoting cleanliness.
    3. Stay Hydrated - Helps with your Muscle Pain in general and recovery.
    4. EXERCISE - Try to keep fit, a hectic job requires a good healthy lifestyle, once you find the right balance it will turn into a routine, routine becomes easier to do :)

It's good to experience what a lot of people call a 'shit job' - It makes you appreciate others a lot more, and the majority of people have been there and done it, hell I was doing paper rounds and pan bashing when I was early teens.
The more you'll do it, the more you'll adjust, but most of all, it's just mindset. If you go into work thinking it's going to be shit, well let me tell you - it will be shit, whereas if you keep your head up, chuck a smile on your face & crack on.. Well you know, I don't really have to explain.

    Goodluck!

My advice is to just find a better job. At your presumed age, do you really want to be doing the work meant for sixteen year olds? Don't misinterpret this as an insult, but rather motivation to do better. I don't know your specific situation, but everyone can always do better. Congrats? On the first day of being a bus boy so to speak. Whatever you do, just don't accept this as a forever thing. Because, once you do that, you will never progress to a better type of career or a career in general. Remember, eventually ai will take your job whether it is 5 years or 20 years from now, you will be replaced.

Thanks for the reply, yeah for sure take that all on board I understand what you mean, but I have to start from the bottom and get that initial job experience to then be able to open doors for myself if that makes sense at all but yeah for sure understand you fully
