This is rediculous. It's a video game not a terrorist strategy planner.

He shouldn't be punished for that, it clearly shows the kid has talent, so why punish him?

You have a big school :O

Expulsion went way too far, a suspension/detention would have been fine.

The fact that he made it so detailed makes me question his intentions. He may be a threat to others, therefore he deserves getting in trouble. However, I think that he should be tested to see if he is sane or not, and not just incarcerated.

On the other hand, he should be free to do what he wants on Counterstrike. It is a game, and I'm sure he doesn't play the game just to be limited to what he can or cannot draw for a map. Now, if he would have drawn a map of the school in real life, or printed the one he has on CS, that would have been a different story.

I have a first-cousin who goes to Virginia Tech, and could have been killed that fateful morning. It's a scary thought. Okay, is it fair to expel him? Maybe not - but I can totally see where they're coming from. Where security for the students is of the utmost priority, it's pretty obvious that the background of a SCHOOL for a SHOOTING video game obviously hints at some sort of violent intents. And the five swords he has in his room also add to the suspicion. The kid obviously knows the school by heart, and he could be using the game as a way to execute his shooting better. Am I paranoid? Of course I am - but is it worth the risk? One [obviously very sick] child being expelled, or many students feeling uncomfortable and maybe losing their lives? Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me.

It's scary for the accuracy - he clearly wasn't just "making a video game." He had something planned, or was helping someone help, can we rule it out? Yes, maybe he's just an innocent idiot with bad comprehension, but, he knows that safety at schools is taken with utmost priority. Is he some sort of idiot that thought it would be "funny"? If he is, he deserves every piece of his punishment.

For those who say, "he's just an artist," clearly he's not that good, he couldn't be creative to change SOME things about the school. He made a virtual carbon-copy of the school. No creativity there, I'd say.

You don't understand. To create something of that scale (Almost exact Detail) takes skill.

He shouldn't have been suspended... Expelled.. w/e. To beable to do something like that is amazing. I doubt he is sick.

If I had the time, I would make a copy of our school in 3ds Max.. However, I have a kid on the way, and unable to do so. Would you consider my intentions as violent? Would you call me crazy? I would do it for fun.

0wn, I basically agree with you 100%. Almost.

Rain, 3ds Max and CounterStrike are two very, very different things. 3ds Max is intended for you to create artistic renders of architecture. CounterStrike is intended for you to kill time by shooting other people in the surrounding.

It's obvious the kid has an affinity for violence - he has ornamental swords, and plays CounterStrike (a violent video game) for many, many hours. And yes, while it does take some COUNTERSTRIKE-coding knowledge to create a very good map, it does not take any ARTISTIC ability, practically. It's just mindless doodling.

I'm sure they would have had some basis for thinking he was planning something, or at least had the risk to - there must be probable cause. And they got a search warrant, and found swords...it's just not a pretty combo.

You're like a broken garbage disposal.
You have an affinity for violence because you play a game? What kind of garbage is that?!?

You're saying if I play Grand Theft Auto 23/7 that for that one hour I'm gonna actually carry out what I'm playing in the game?

    Please think before you post.

I would be concerned about his motives, but congratulating him on the skill he has. The school has to take a good look at his record and decide whether or not expulsion was the necessary action.

    MOTIVES THIS
    POSSIBILITIES THAT

    You people make me sick.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_innocence

By your own foolish tongues, by your own foolish beliefs, you could all be thrown in prison.

In the absense of the presumption of innocence here's logic that police could use against you individually.

    1. Laws are a form of rules.
    2. Someone who likes to break rules, may at some point also show the same tendency toward laws.
    3. Anyone who breaks rules may break laws.
    4. We should arrest or spy on anyone caught breaking any rules in case they break the law in the future.
    5. Sythe.org users break runescape's rules.
    6. All sythe.org members will be arrested or spyed upon, just in case.

    Enjoying this? I hope so.

Has any scientific study been conducted that relates breaking rules in videogames to breaking rules IRL? If there has, this is plausible logic.

However, it has been PROVEN that playing videogames that encourage violence, especially towards other people, increases the risk of being a violent person. Then, the setting of the school IMO just takes it over the top. And you can't take that kind of risk in a high-population school. What if you or (if you have one) your child go to that school? Would you want a kid like that to be there anyways?
