[ACCEPTED] Real Life Guide & E-Book Sales

I was looking through this section today and saw the top three of the sales threads are ripped guides. For the rules in that section it states:

The threads that break these rules have 2-3 pages of replies/bumps which is kind of worrying because that means these people probably have sales from this without being caught.

I propose that any e-book sales threads sections have to have approval before making a new thread in them.(kind of like the gold selling/buying sections) As well as having the e-book have to be verified by a sectional moderator. That way it reduces the risk of any potential scams in those sections.

I agree people shouldn't be able to sell guides that are being resold - lots of poker guides being sold, i believe that some of them you may be able to hunt them down for free

 

We used to have a team to verify guides, but that is no longer necessary. I think that this is a job sectionals can handle. We should require them to verify the originality and general usefulness of the guide before it can be sold. Most guides like these are just money grabs anyway.

True. I also agree with removing it, but people are going to attempt to sell them here regardless. It's better to set a precedent for future instances rather than just "shutting it down" completely.

 

I'd say just shut it down. Sythe basically opens itself up to lawsuits left and right once the owners get a whiff of what Sythe is doing here, providing a platform for stolen material to be sold and hence being liable for any perceived loss of income of the real author. The implications do go deeper.

It's painfully obvious to see pretty much all or almost all of the content advertised there is stolen lol. Kinda contradictory since we DO HAVE RULES against selling stolen content i.e. stolen accounts. So remind me again, why arent these STOLEN EBOOK thread OPs banned? We sure do ban people for selling cracked accounts, no?

 

Well the reason it goes unpunished as it is is because buyers don't investigate or make reports after they buy these guides. If there was a rule requiring a mod to look over it, then this is way easier to combat. Even if we remove the section, people are still going to sell guides. If this makes guide selling obsolete, so be it. I just think we should let it die on its own from there.

 

They have alot of sectional mods. But they are all only concerned with runescape and scam reports. I see very few who actually do anything outside that section. I normally only see global mods in the other sections. It is also my opinion you can not hold more then one sectional mod section. Idk why one person. Should be a mod in 3 sections. Get more mods if you need. I'm sure plenty of People would set up to the plate to help out.

 

Surely reselling some of these poker guides breeches copywrite anyway, allowing the sales worth $1000s of dollars may incur a lawsuit

 

Add a manual approval process before threads are posted and slap it on for some mod points. That section is rife with aids threads with the "legit" ones being few and far between.

 

I headed a team for a bit doing this about 8 years ago. Pretty much no guides got approved because they were all bunk.

 

Nothing wrong with that though, saves people the hassle of buying a horrible/scam guide.

Frankly the section was such a mess we've simply archived the entire guide sales market. Most guides actively being sold were scam, faulty, or stolen methods. As for runescape guides, everything is available for free somewhere either on the runescape wiki or on youtube and sales of runescape guides mostly resulted in reports being made from unsatisfied buyers.
