[DENIED] Remove the ability to donate large amounts of money via paypal.

i personally feel like the ability to donate large amounts of money via paypal should not be allowed, why should a user be allowed to donate lets say 1000$ via paypal, exit scam over 2000$ then chargeback the paypal, at least if large donation amounts were forced to be done via payment methods like btc, the payment can not be reversed.

 

I support, maybe adding new payment methods would be a great idea. Things like Skrill, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and maybe more payment methods would not only link in with your original suggestion but I feel that it would also allow more people to donate to the site, more specifically, users in poorer/developing countries.

 

I support, but I propose something a little different, as someone who doesn't take non-PP;

Friends & Family donations. Donations are donations. I'm assuming you're talking about Goods & Services chargebacks? If not then oh well.

New payment methods is a good idea I think. At least BTC/Skrill/Eth.

I think instead, the MAIN thought should probably be to limit how much new members can donate. Like a new member can't donate over 100$ until like 3-5 months in. Idk. I'm sure this idea can be played around with but it'll def stop someone from joining and donating 1k or 2k within a month or two's span to either just chargeback it all or exitscam a shit ton of money.

Just my thoughts. Hopefully something good is picked from these ideas lol

 

I agree. A change would make sense to prevent large scamquit donation chargebacks. Unfortunately, I think PP is up there because it’s the easiest “immediate” donation based on website integration. You can still pay with BTC, etc. thru bonded users.. but it isn’t immediate. Not sure how feasible it would be (or if it’s even possible, to put BTC in its place.

Oh and unfortunately, @Vul, chargebacks are still very prevalent when going friends&family due to PP’s rules. Frustrating, but they don’t protect the seller of “virtual goods” in most cases.

 

re: the original suggestion - no support. Is there any evidence of this being an issue? I feel like if it were, Sythe/Matthew would have done something about it by now. I personally can't recall any large scamquits facilitated by a large pp donation.

re: having the site officially accept donation methods other than pp - I'd support, assuming that Sythe/Matthew want it to be this way. I'm actually a little surprised there are no "official" crypto methods of donating, but the whole bond holder system is weird, so again, I'd assume it's like this on purpose. As of February it doesn't seem like we're moving away from having bond holders though.

 

As mentioned above can't really complain about this because we have no idea how many of them actually get chargebacked, but it shouldn't be hard to implement more payment methods like accepting btc through bitpay

No support, I get your argument but lets say someone only has money on paypal, they then have to buy BTC probably lose a good few $ on fees. then donate and even then if the bond holder charges fees then they need more btc. If bitpay or something similar was integrated that's fine. However someone still needs knowledge of cryptos and where to get cryptos. I'd hate to support a post then see sometime down the line someone gets scammed $500 trying to buy bitcoin to donate...

 

I support this in a way, ideally I think a "waiting period" of 180 days for PayPal should be a thing. The donator would then get a "Unverified Donator" mini rank and would be required to wait until that 181st day to obtain their actual mini rank.

Of course this isn't an ideal situation, but one that will push users to use other forms of payments. That's the only way I can see this issue being resolved and its definitely not ideal for those who are legitimate donators who get screwed over because of the few that aren't legit.

 

This would be a huge waste of time for staff.

And again, there's no evidence that people chargebacking pp donations is an actual issue. If Richard only wanted to accept donations in crypto, I'm pretty sure he'd have gotten that set up by now.

 

It would indeed, hense the bold "not" ideal directly following the suggestion. There isnt much that can be done except getting rid of Paypal in it's entirety as its a broken and painful system to use in 2019. We do not know how many chargebacks are happening, this is correct however I bet it happens more than 1 or 2 times here and there. Which in my opinion (and I'm sure you agree) is enough to at least add more donation methods that aren't from almost 10 years ago.

 

Keywords "any payment method" I think bond holders should remain, however I also believe new payment methods that do not require holders is key. Other than that, I totally agree that users should be able to donate whenever, however, and as much as they please no questions asked.

Even if this was happening, it's the user's fault for trusting someone solely on their donation status.
