Donors and Scam Quitting. 2500$ In a week

Pay the extra few cents for security and buy from trusted individuals like myself. Also if you want to trade with randoms or have any feel that they are shady then use trusted middleman's like Laziz/Dieze/QBD/Veng etc.

 

As moo truck said < these users should of used a middleman instead of trusting someone who has almost 0 vouches for what he was offering to the community.

It's simple use logic and stop giving your money to new commers who say they can do your service for 10m < IE goal to clean your bank

And focus on the proper sythe guidlines for trading. Seems no one is following them.

That's a really good focus as well 100% agreed.

I definitely think there are small things the community can do to better protect people. It just takes discussion and hopefully some come to light.

 

I guess I shouldn't have even mentioned donated money used to refund scams. I literally say I don't think it should and yet people are repeating it won't be like they are saying something new.

Tbh a middleman is actually pretty hard to use. I was buying 300m reached out to 3mm in the MM section none replied and then one did wanted a 50m fee.

 

I currently middleman for free and am on my computer 16 hours a day, have over 300 trades middlemanned with the highest being close to $6000 feel free to hit me up for a middleman whenever.

but whos to say that even a trusted middleman wouldn’t be taken over by greed when given the chance? I mean I don’t know how middlemen are chosen and what the application process is, but I guess its all down to luck in the end

 

Don't think an Official Middleman has scam quit during a middleman in all of Sythe so statistically i'd say it's way less likely to happen.

 

There is also a degree of bad luck which you cant anticipate. 3 days ago a trade with stick would have probably been fine whereas the day it went bad was the day he just decided to scam quit. These are factors that nobody can control so your only way to avoid these situations happening to you is by always being extra careful. Use OMM/trustworthy middlemans and change your trading methods. Pay a little extra and buy from proven businesses/sellers. You could even breakdown your trade into increments for GP trades.

 

Because unlike donor ranks which are basically handed out to anyone, OMM ranks are incredibly hard to get (staff members themselves even get rejected). So the degree of checks on these individuals are very high.

 

That won't do much to prevent "trusted" people from SQing, though. The majority of users think donor = trust, which is what this thread was addressing. Hell, one guy went with StickTalk over an ex-mod, that's how much certain users valued his high donor rank.

 

I do like the idea of newly made accounts not being able to provide services for a certain amount of time, similar to a couple of other forums out there, 30 days seems fair too imo. Or maybe just a certain amount of posts that aren't "spam"?

Part of this reasoning is because, statistically when people SQ they try to line up a whole bunch of trades to happen at the same time.

However for MM/OMM's they get approached when both users are ready to do the trades then and there.

 

The real issue I see is it's hard to know who is and isn't a scammer.

We could list everyone and their grandmother as a scammer, but does that mean it's fair punishment to treat all the same? of course not. I get that it's upsetting and annoying for those who order things, but how do you also think equally those who bust their asses off to make something of the website too.

We donate good money to this site, and we also devote our spare time no matter how big or small that is. People will remain getting scammed regardless, people as you said yourself think because of a certain donor rank the person can be more trusted, which is the main issue and it's false advertisement.

 

Without headhunting 95% of the service section, pretty much most people use vennies for their dirty work, so this would also need to be addressed if we was to push something like that.

I understand cheap services, and wanting to make the most buck for your time, but this also would need to be further looked into due to it then falling under allowing them to operate under other names.

 

I didnt read all posts but I definitely agree that donations should not be used to cover scams. That wouldn't prevent people from scamming because either way they are out of the money.

However, what about the option for people to buy bonds held by official MMs or someone. They could have a similar rank for "Bonded X amount ". That could then be used to refund scam victims but I think you'd still have a problem with people just scamming more than their bond. So it'd have to be some ridiculous high bond amount.

 

Exactly these two points. We definitely have safe methods of trading in place through MM and a majority of donors also have a really good reputation to back up their donor amount. It's just the environment leads everyone to believe donor= trust and high donors are viewed as the most trustworthy in some people's eyes.

The only way I know to help this is place the fact that "Donors are people who support the site and donations does not mean the person won't scam or offer any protection." higher in the stickies in every sale section.

 

Dont see how this would work with fluctuation of prices. Idea is good imo but theres no real way to implement it safely. I think they had something similar a long time ago called SVU (sythe verified user), but I forget what exactly it was so not sure.
