[DENIED] Allow donating to the staff

Its a gesture of kindness more than anything. Staff shouldn't be expecting much from it, and it will probably be towards the very low $x amount a month, perhaps $xx if you're lucky.

Let's make a scenario; our friend @Pendulum has no job and he's a volunteer mod here. He rarely deals in the market place, and he's quite happy with it. Snce sythe is a diverse forum, one day a person notices Pendi working hard (banning noobs and denying pardons, you know the normal stuff) He decides to tip pendi $10 which is a very generous amount. Pendi sees the donation coming in, he feels a bit happy and thinks about what to do with the money, so he decides to buy a bond or maybe orders from Micky D's. Pendi is happy, doesn't feel burnt out and keeps doing what he does.

 

Nah this would just cultivate bad staff practise e.g. everyone liked Wortel but he got demoted for a reason. Besides, staff can already utilise their status to boost their sythe income in other ways. Plenty of people would do it for free, for non-wage factors.

No support, some people are already "more equal" than others. I wouldn't want this problem to get worse.

Would suggest some kind of sythe gold rewards for their "Activity points" instead

People will apply for money and they will be doing the work they do for the wrong reasons, staff would see dollar bills and they won’t be able to remain unbiased even if they wanted to.

 

Lets not underestimate the abilities of our staff, the current staff are given much less credit than they deserve.

 

Yes, lets not underestimate them by suggesting they need our donations. It'll create more problems than what it may solve.

Monetising a staff rank is easy enough.

 

I like the idea, but in reality this can just be done behind the scenes. Contact mod of choice: "Hey man, I really appreciate the work that you've been doing. Drop your BTC addy and i'll leave a tip!"

Absolutely not. Most of my reasoning has already been posted by other users, so won't regurgitate the same thing.

 

Why not add the donate button and allow users to donate Sythe Gold to mods. This can then be sold. It would also provide a slightly bigger market for Sythe gold, for said do-gooders to buy and donate.

 

A) Sythe gold is quite useless
B) No different from a normal donation button
C) Even if there were a market for sythe gold, this clearly doesnt resolve the slippery slope issues all of us have pointed out, and creates a competitive popularity culture.

Being a good mod isnt about being popular. Its about being fair, and being willing to dole out punishment even to popular users who have the ability to drag you thru the mud, even your own friends. You turn on donations, you turn this whole moderating culture into who's-the-most-popular-moderator? What then?

 

You're right. What about a Sythe Moderator "Tip" button. This is evenly shared out between all mods and grateful users of sythe can donate to a bond-holder or a staff member to have it added to the pot. This could be shared out monthly or quarterly.

 

Even @Sythe could thank his boys with a few $ to grab a beer, ;-)

 

Probably best to go to an admin and have them give it to the mod anonimously, otherwise others might think you are bribing them

 

I don't support this. Even if every current staff member is honest somewhere down the line someone could become staff that would be corrupted by it or persuaded by the $$$ from "x" user to do something in "x's" favor.

 

the fact that every current/ex-staff member who has posted here thinks this is a bad idea should be enough to deny it. on top of the issues mentioned, you then have the problem of apportioning the (presumably anonymous) donations once they're collected. should all staff get the same share? when do you distribute payments? what about staff that were active for a part of a week/month/year?

i think we'd all be happier if you took the money you want to send to staff and donated it to a charity instead

 

Read through previous posts. This can still easily lead to a situation where people aim for staff positions for all of the wrong reasons man.

 

This is already happening, how else do you think @video survives this long? All jokes aside ofcourse, no support per obvious reasons. The fuck is up with those suggestions lol.

Listen, Sythe is a great forum I come to speak about truth. What harm is there to set a permanent public btc address and not allowing staff to ask for donations. It's all transparent anyway, and in cases where people think staff will abuse this, just start questioning if someone is getting more than $10 a month. It'll be obvious.
