Changes and clarifications to the account market

Thanks for the update, I agree that account sellers should be liable in all forms of account sales whether they are original owners or not.

 

I’m a bit confused by the rule. You stated that the sellers have to maintain “recovery responsibility” for a month after sale. What happens after that?

My issue with account sales is how do you even know an account is truly recovered? What if the person who bought the account has buyers remorse and just wants his money back?

Thanks for the update. I was reading a lot of ‘ for sale ‘ threads and noticed a lot of sellers saying ‘ they are not liable ‘ for lost accounts. I’m glad this has been implemented. Thanks OP.

 

The seller has to assume responsibility for a 1 month minimum in their TOS, if the buyer agrees to that then after 1 month the seller isn't responsible for the account. This can of course be extended so some people may offer 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, etc.

If you're concerned about people faking recoveries, I'd recommend not transferring the registered email to the buyer after the sale. That way they wouldn't be able to (easily) fake a recovery

 

Thank you for this update, however I worry now that this is going to be a lot harder for people to buy/sell accounts. Saying someone isn't liable anymore after a 1 month period of the sale of an account unless stated otherwise is going to make some users worry I fear.

 

I believe you're misunderstanding, sellers are liable FOREVER unless stated otherwise. We encourage sellers to create a terms of service where they at a minimum have 1 month liability and it's up to buyers to agree or not to the seller's TOS

Clarify this and everyone else's confusion on page 2 in the OP. We understand now, but the ruling-wording is a bit too missleading/confusing.

I don't like this. The bazillion newcomers who come in selling accounts and recovering them soon after are already bad enough.

The last thing we need is for them to be able to defend themselves in the scam report....

On the other hand, I understand it.... After soooo long of not having played on account, an OO may be not considered the "OO" to jagex anymore. Example: if someone plays on an account for 2 years, and the OO played on it 20 hours, whose side is Jagex gonna go with?

We don't know. We need a different solution than this though lol.

 

There appears to be a bit of confusion/misinterpretation with what @video has said in the OP.

See the below example – which should answer most questions, and clarify most concerns.

The reference to June 19th, 2017

Video sells SellerMan an account on June 18th 2017. SellerMan sells the SAME account on June 20th 2019 to Gen. The account now gets recovered. Video is not responsible for assisting with the recovery. SellerMan is liable and responsible.

Essentially, the OO is not liable to assist with recovery in the instance the account has been re-sold since its first sale (June 19th 2017).

This does NOT mean that Video can recover his accounts with impunity – Video will still be liable if he recovers accounts he directly sold, with no re-sale involved, even if prior to June 19th 2017.

The reference to the 1 month TOS

This is simply stating that the MINIMUM REQUIRED liability HAS to be 1 month. Users TOS cannot bypass this limit threshold.

This does NOT imply that you are only liable for 1 month, and then you are free to recover the account later on down the track.
