Are we the only intelligent life in the known universe?

I'm curious as to people's opinions and arguments on this topic.

Keep in mind, I'm referring to the KNOWN universe.

Is it possible that we are the only intelligent life form?

It has been thought to have said that the universe is infinite so I wouldn't doubt if there's intelligent life in places other than Earth.

For clarity, you should probably put explored instead of known. Back to the topic in question, I also wouldn't doubt if there was or wasn't intelligent life lurking around somewhere in the explored universe but it's likely we won't find out in our lifetimes.

Interesting, my view on life and why were here is based on existing life somewhere else

The Bible does not mention anything beyond our dimensional existence. Because of this I firmly believe we will never find any life, outside of bacteria etc, beyond earth.

Btw, I think you guys are referring to what is called "the observable universe".

    God Bless,

    Yes, 100%, without a doubt.

I'd be WAY MORE insane to think we're the ONLY intelligent life in the entire known universe.

Here's how I think of it. In 500 years of science, we've been able to nearly accomplish an understanding of everything that we have come across as humans, to a molecular level. 500 years. The universe has been around for tens of BILLIONS of years. If there is another intelligent life form out there, imagine what they could of accomplished had they thrived for thousands, if not millions of years. We could be creations of another intelligent species. I don't know. Just something I think about a lot.

    What's scarier -
    That we may be alone?
Or that we may not be alone?

What do you consider "known"? The 8-9 planets that orbit the sun? The Milky Way? To the edges of the very furthest away taken picture by a telescope?

I don't think there's anything intelligent in our solar system... Probably some bacteria and stuff on the other planets though. In our Galaxy? Maybe.. If there is other intelligent beings in our galaxy, I'd say there would be some kind of contact by now, but who knows, maybe that's exactly what those "unknown radio signals" in space are, them trying to contact us. And further than our Galaxy, my random, completely uneducated assumption is yeah, probably.

When you say "Known", are you referring to the observable universe, or, are you referring to what we've explored?

In order for life to exist, or what we know life to be, scientists say that liquid water must be present. Galileo and Voyager 1 & 2 have both discovered liquid water on moons of Jupiter, Saturn & a few asteroids. I'd like to think that somewhere out there life exists.

The fact that earth exists is incredible, factoring in the gravitational pull from all other planets in our solar system and our distance to the sun, it's an honest miracle that we're alive.

I really like your answer! But I've always had an issue with the whole water for life scenario. Sure, it's plausible and likely true, BUT I'd like to think that there could be things out there so different than we are, maybe all they need to survive is breathing nitrogen, no liquid or food intake required at all! The limits of what COULD be out there are limitless.

I agree. I've always felt like the sci-fi phrase "life as we know it" focuses too much on the "life" aspect, and not enough on the "as we know it" part. Right now, we have a sample size of one, which doesn't inspire that much confidence that life on all planets will be immediately recognizable.

We are alone. The fact that we as humans have evolved to where we are today should never make sense. Humans are also a poisonous, cancerous sore to this Earth. Eventually resources will run out, whatever they may be.

When we consider hundreds of billions of galaxies, with hundreds of billions of stars each, your statement stands WAY out. Why doesn't it make sense that humans are where are we are today?

I agree, it took few billion years for organisms to become complex, chances are that out there most complex organism is something like crustacean

That is very very unlikely. But are we really life? Or just part of information in the universe? Think about the super massive black holes we know exist. The information in a black hole is extremely huge. It's not destroyed, it can only not escape.

It's very hard to say. In explored universe - most likely, but I do believe there is some intelligent life somewhere far, far, away.

With such a vast universe, I do not believe we are the only "intelligent life" and I believe that there's life around the universe and more smarter than we. Humans evolution Is not a quite example of intelligent, well, in some parts. having unecessary wars to kill to show that they are better than others, creating chaos but at the same moment, we can show our truly feelings to others: compassion.

A great example of "intelligent life" on a movie, It's "Interstellar" and also "Arrival".

Sometimes I question if humans can be classed as intelligent, I mean life somehow started on this planet so theres no reason why it couldn't of started somewhere else
