[APPROVED] Educational imposter pm's to new users

Basically suggesting an automated personal message to every new (and maybe currently existing) users a pm that explains how to avoid imposter scams.
Should be resent as suggested practices change so no one misses anything

Expecting it to look something like this or w/e staff thinks would fit

Hello, due to an increase of imposter scam's we're sending a message to everyone with guidelines you should follow to avoid getting scammed!

1. When sending a pm to confirm your conversation on discord make sure to include your unique id because this is extremely important to not get scammed! Click here for a guide how to get unique discord id's
2. When sending a pm to confirm your conversation on skype always make sure to double check if all the letters of their skype match using quick find feature. Click here for a skype confirmation guide

Might take time till my skype guide gets moderation approval but you will get the idea

 

I fully agree with @ABM users should get enough information about not getting scammed.
It being added in a seperate messages would be right.

 

Separate message would be the best because it wouldn't be overfilled with too much information that people won't even bother to read

Unfortunately imposters will always be around and try to get as much people as they can. Naturally we can't control their discord/skype accounts but we can do our part and sensitize our community of such reality, especially newcomers. Perhaps the automated PM should include a few notable threads regarding discord and safe trading practices such as:

1. How to Identify & Avoid Being Scammed on Discord [Guide]
   
2. Some useful information for staying safe on Discord!
   
3. Find Discord UNIQUE IDs in Less than 60 seconds!
4. Trading 101 - Vouches, donor status and how you can stay safe!

+ that skype guide you're talking about or another one as even if discord is now the #1 trading platform, some still use Skype and we can't neglect it.

Yes, all of those are on the forums already but sadly, most of the newcomers won't bother to look around the forums as they want to jump straight in the trading action. We probably get a dozen of imposter scam reports in RAS every week, I don't see why we wouldn't want to lower that rate and I'm pretty sure that automated PM isn't that hard to implement.

 

The main concern should be how to keep the pm simple enough for users to bother looking into it, if they open up and see a whole page of text they most likely wont even look at any of it. Maybe it should contain most important information at the front, and these other articles as extras listed below to not scare people away with loads of text

 

discord impostors seem to be one of the biggest problems right now so any method in reducing them im all for it, support.

been a lot of suggestions like this over the past year or two and nothings been done. hopefully will happen once some of the bigger projects are finished ( forum redesign?? UC7???? )

 

I agree with this, would be a good way for new players to protect themselfs.

I support as well, but this still won't even come close to 100% protect people from being scammed. New users will still have to pay attention just as everyone else does when trading.

Definite support. Easy enough to implement and if it helps prevent even one scam a year it's worthwhile.

To be honest i doubt anyoine here actually read that long ass pm when they first joined.

 

I think an easier way to do this realistically would be to make a master thread regarding impostor scams, and in order to view the marketable threads you must view the thread (idk how coding that would work, personally don't know much of it if it is possible). That way people are guaranteed to have looked at the thread before viewing any market threads, if this is implementable it could work for non-member users as well. So people wouldn't have to get scammed make guest accounts and waste staff time with an impostor scam. Just an idea though.

 

Good suggestion but the problem is a lot of people don't even use an account - they just go straight to threads and look for someone. I don't think this suggestion would work for guest users, but I could be wrong.

New to discord era and all this imposter business and capitalization and unique id stuff can be quite frustrating.
