[APPROVED] Have a warning for impostors before viewing market threads

No clue if its possible, but before a user can view certain sections in the market there should be a warning page that says something along the lines of how to protect themselves from being scammed by impostors. Some might say that this is the reason why we have stickies, but lets be honest - the average person who browses Sythe from a brand new account or as a guest has little to no idea of safe trade practices along with the fact people majority of the time they aren't going to read those stickies (hence why theres at least 5 reports a day about people getting scammed by impostors).

It can just be a one-time thing that a person has to click for viewing market sections and it can be logged in their browsers cache or linked to their account.

 

Support. This would work so much better alongside stickies. We could even redirect newcomers to a trading sticky first to 'force' em to read through it. So many newcomers in RaS literally getting imposter scammed daily because they dont know the existence of a sythe PM system or how to detect discord imposters.

 

I remember this being posted before, a one time pop up. I don't think it passed and obviously its not implemented. Support though.

Every new user will without a doubt appreciate a warning that prevents them from being scammed.
Reduces scams which means more ppl will return, more customers for gold sellers & less retards that make an impostor account cuz they know it'll be harder.

Support. I traded with a genuinely brand new user earlier today, did a fire cape service for him. I insisted on sending a Sythe PM, and had to explain why it was important, and that Discord imposters are rampant. After attempting to explain Unique ID's myself, I went to find a sticky to send the guy, which I only found after specifically googling "Sythe discord pm".

Considering this is a forum that revolves around trading, there should definitely be some kind of notice of these issues to new users.

 

I support this whole heartedly. I know you can only try to educate someone so much but I feel like this'd be a great thing for new users.

I was scammed today by an impostor of Devils. I lost $421 BTC. I didn't have any clue what a discord impostor was or did.

 

Free market. People don't read it wouldn't change much.

 

In the end people will keep on getting scammed, because y'all are dumb as fuck. On a serious note I have added this:



to most of the RuneScape markets. It's clickable and cannot be dismissed. That's about all I could do with the current options we have on the forum, since it'll most likely take years till addons or anything else are being added. If you would like me to change it to another thread, please let me know. I can add banners/pictures in there aswell, so if you could have one made for Discord imposters (or I can ask @Jason) I could add that there instead for better visibility. This fine?

 

Hi mr wortel, this is not appearing for me. Perhaps the 2FA notification is overriding it? I would suspect that the type of user susceptible to being scammed does not have 2FA enabled, so this may not help much.

This will definitely be good. A good pop-up and easy to close. Just like how websites make you click that "Accept T.O.S" thing before going on.
