[DENIED] Home IP Trade with cautions.

I suppose this would be useful so support? Idk...

To be honest, if you get scammed by a "trade with caution" well then I guess you weren't being cautious when trading


The only downside is in situations where you do not have a home IP, perhaps it's a school that tracks internet or you are forced to use a mobile data connection... getting a DNT slapped on your account for doing nothing wrong sounds like the wrong way to go about doing things.

 

The idea of twc that quickly (few days) turning into dnt unless you either post from home ip OR show valid ID of some sort (for those who can't do a home ip for some reason) is good and I support, however as Hex mentioned if this would have to be done manually by staff it might not be worth it

Support this is actually a pretty good suggestion. I've noticed some people do get banned or a dnt placed on their account after a certain time of having that no home ip twc (I think i've seen a few get it after they've gotten a RAS thread made on them) I'd say 7 days is more than enough for them to be able to post from a home IP unless a valid excuse is given.

No support for making a new rank just for them, There's already a thread to keep track of who has gotten a twc for no home ip and if people care enough they can just press the twc rank as they should be before trading with the user to find out why they have the twc.

 

Very interesting idea, not bad at all. Would love to see what others think of that TWC rank submission.

I will leave this thread open a few more days and see what the others think.

 

I've thought about it a bit more, and I am willing to support this though I'd want a different rank of some sort. People are going to take advantage when the rank gets verified because "hey I'm verified now". How about something like "Potential ban evader"? I don't want any timer of some sort though, they either get the rank - or they don't.

 

I would say they should have only 2-4 days to log in from a home IP.
This wouldn't give them long enough time to use the same VPN or whatever.
If they can't provide a home IP login - why? Proof of ID & who you are at this point should be mandatory.

If this was the case, I think this would reduce the scamming from ban evasions by alot.

I feel like this is taking it a step to far, yes a fair amount of new users are ban evaders, but sticking that tag on somebody seems very harmful if they actually are not.

The whole "TWC waiting for home IP" is a massive support by me on it's self, the image and way it's presented needs to be well thought off tho.

Also a big support of the DNT after X amount of time, maybe then a "potential ban evader" rank could be in place after the X amount of time has been gone by.

 

X amount of time is never going to be implemented, so it's either a rank they can dispute or not.

 

in that case a "trade with caution, awaiting IP confirmation" rank would seem best fitting, if it's introcuded publicly and stickys are made informing people about this rank

 

If a new rank is made what real benefit will it have on stopping scams which is the ultimate goal. People have and will continue to trust newcomers who donate hundreds and cash out within a few days. Information is posted about good trading practices but for years people still fall for this. I think it’s naive to assume they’ll be any benefit to “twc awaiting ip conf”. There needs to be a more stringent approach either ban them upon joining without a home ip or let things go on as is.

 

The real question is why are people trading with users with a TWC?

Is it not clear enough?

Is the information not transmitting to the victims properly? Do we need to do a better job of relaying this information out?

How many people actually get scammed by these people? From what I have seen looks mostly like discord imposters now anyways.

Discord imposter scams are huge as someone else mentioned.

This is very silly to me.

If you're going to be dealing with an online open market you need to put something like this in place..

Trade with caution is trade with caution, you can be cautious and still get scammed.

It needs to be known that they aren't on a home IP.
It needs to be known that they are high risk, perhaps a high risk to trade rank instead of a trade with caution rank.
They should only have 2-4 days to login from a home IP or submit identification etc.

Having an open market with very minimal security is silly.

I shouldn't be able to register on a VPN, use that same VPN for 11 days building up trust in the community with shitty quality
vouches, mostly buying stuff, donate $50 and scam 500M.

That's the bottom line.

 

I really like this idea. I'm personally leaning more towards the harsher side of punishment. Internet access is in almost every home, I really don't buy the excuse that you can only use sythe at a public library. The truth is almost all these people have access at home, but it's easier to hide behind VPNs because of the activities they're involved in.

 

100% agree with this. EVERYONE on the internet usually has a home, and said home usually also has internet.
In the rare cases that someone may be military, or accessing through college/university, mobile, whatever it may be.. (because there
are situations like this) then verification of who you are / where you are should be submitted.

It would make these types of scams almost impossible for the average person (let's be real most scammers are very average) to
use Sythe this way.

Login from your HOME IP or send me your ID / proof of residence, and boom - everyone just got filtered out.

All in all, something needs to happen and I think the Administrators of this website should implement something that we have all
suggested & supported into this free open market to make it a little more safe.

I mean, I could have scammed like 30-40M within my first 2 weeks here as a normal legit person there are people who will just
trade people first for no real reason anyways but if we can implement some stuff from this thread we can really help the market.
