I never said Atheists were smarter than everyone else. They might be just as bad, they don't really have proof he DOESN'T exsist either. And yes, I know that the Bible is the most read book ever. But since the widespread distribution of OTHER books besides the Bible, there are simply less Christians.

You're quite right - what I posted was just a sampling. However, it really tends to be that the intellectual elite are less religious than the masses. Exceptions exist, of course.

Well here I'll agree - I've made it a point to try to argue the opposite side whenever I find an idiotic atheist argument - and unfortunately, there are many. Those who become an atheist, and say "Hey, I'm now associated with these smart scientists!" are idiots.

'...If you think science is our savior.'

Tell me one thing god has done to help the world, and back this up with evidence.
Secondly, your typing on a computer. Science made it.
Your looking at a monitor. Science made it.
Your house has lights, and electricity. Science made it.
To make myself very, very clear to all you ignorant christans:
    Science made it.

Now, I can wrap this sentence up:
'And to wrap up, you seem to take the same ignorant approach of racists and bigots and religious zealots.'

    You've run out of rubbish.

    EVOLUTION BITCH.

Evolution? From what I've heard, evolution revolves around particles maturing to make mass. Science CAN'T yet do that.

I laugh when people say "God is the answer". They just depend on an imaginary being to make things right. Why are so many innocent people dying from Cancer and other diseases like it? Why hasn't the all mighty one come forth and saved them? I think you know the answer.

Why is believing in a God bad?

Just to throw in a bit of DeaconSense...

The bible is the most printed book since it is law in the United States that every hotel room come equipped with a bible. Every church pew, which it is law for a church to exist in every city, comes with at least two bibles, and every government building has at least one in every room.

You know what the second most printed book in the world is?

    The Odyssey by Homer.

Now if it were law for the Odyssey to be printed and distributed like that, then the bible would be dominated, and people would actually enjoy reading it.

Just because it's the number one printed book doesn't make it correct.

For the second time, I am not a christian. Your ignorant assumption simply lends more credence to the idea that atheists are just as closed-minded and as religious ZEALOTS.

EXTREMISM IS ALWAYS BAD YOU IDIOT. THATS EXACTLY WHY I SAID ZEALOT AND NOT "PERSON".

Also, you're another person who suffers from taking my posts to the farthest literal sense. I never implied science was bad, and I dont think that. Science is not bad. Ignorant people who place all their chips on it are. Like you.

Oh, and, as for things God did:
Without the extreme faith of both muslims in the early centuries of the past millenium, and anglicans and jesuits in the second half, much of the cultural exchange and exchange of knowledge in the world would not have occurred. This isnt a perfect example of it but your drivel-ridden post makes me want to atleast write something.

And to "wrap up". Science didnt make fire. It didnt make the first weapon. It didnt have anything to do with the neolithic revolution. You simply have to understand science is just as contrived and biased as faith is(because it is made by humans). To repeat:Its not science, its people.

I agree with you a lot, however, science is the only real thing that powers things nowadays. Look at your computer, for example. That is an invention of science, it is powered by generated electricity (which we probably wouldn't have without science). All the parts of a computer work because of scientifically explainable reasons.

The human brain is of superior intelligence to other beings. We were creative and innovative (even primitively) and hence, the first weapons etcetera. Nowadays, science is just a practical thing to use to make new inventions.

I think that while the existence of religion in this world may have been a good thing to a certain extent. However, it has many bad factors which need to be eradicated before I consider it (as it is today) a good thing.

believing in god isn't bad as such... Just foolish. And aren't Catholics preaching "good" things. Yet they commuted heinous genocides through the ages

A vote of confidence is always welcome, so i should really bite my tongue, but:

I am not debating the good of science. I'm debating its replacement of belief in a higher power. There are a lot of "good" things in the world, but this doesnt make them eligible for such a vaunted position.

Also, this is not a discussion about religion. It is a discussion about belief in a God. I am vehemently opposed to nearly all organized forms of religion. They privatize and add restrictions to the most personal of matters.

If you don't believe it doesn't make you smart it just means you don't care or you tend to think logically.

Why is believing in a God bad?

Why is believing in a God bad?

This is a completely ambiguous question.

First you must define a morality by which to judge good and bad, right and wrong. Only once you have done this does your question make any sense.

It's like asking if a piece of string is short or long? Short or long in comparison to what? The string itself?

Why is believing in a God bad?

    Bad in comparison to what?

Now, being as you are most likely Christian, I assume you have adopted a Christian set of morals. Thus your question reads as follows:
From the perspective of a Christian, why is believing in god bad?

The answer of course is obvious. So why raise the question?

What you really need to ask yourself is why you should adopt Christian morals instead of any other moral standard. But undoubtedly your answer will relate to either faith or circular logic (which is faith). So really this entire thread is a complete waste of time.
