I suggest we pick a standard 3D authoring tool, or at least a standard format and detail level.

The graphics are going to need resolution standards etc.

The standards chosen need to be compatible with directx / XNA.

Post suggestions here. I am going to have a play around with XNA / do some tutorials now to get a better idea of what we are working with.

XNA, why? because its pretty much the most capable software that doesn't require advanced programming. I'm reading some tutorials on it now.

If I were suggest a program (from what I've seen) I would probably suggest 3ds max or Autodesk maya. But couldn't we use different programs and then convert the models and landscapes to compatible filetypes (or would that mess with the resolution etc.?

    3DS max is a good program ;)

Though detail will need a poll in my opinion..

If you really want great quality then I myself would suggest using Maya, I like 3ds max though because its my home program, the first 3d modeling one I used, also its a lot simpler, but for quality Maya is the way to go no doubt about it.

How do you shade/color in Maya?

I know Zbrush works on finishing your rigs (or whatever they're called), but Hypershade isnt that good (or I stink at it.)
