AA isn't filled with degenerates, it's filled with people that are trying to better themselves.. It's kind of ignorant to assume everyone in AA is a degenerate drunk. It would be equally ignorant to say all sythe users and gamers are skinny nerds that live in their parents basement (which is also untrue).

Well I don't know about that either because I know I'm in great shape seeing as I get paid to workout and save lives therefore logically speaking I can't be the only one who isn't 300 lbs. But I like where your heads at

 

Went to a meeting for the first time a couple months ago. Should've kept going tbh, but... I'm definitely trying to stop drinking though.

 

I went to several meetings in my late teens.

My uncle was ordered by the court to attend meetings and given a piece of paper someone at the meetings would need to sign - it didn't have his date of birth/age, description of him, anything like that...so my family urged me to go on his behalf while he sat at home.

It was fairly awkward for me to say the least. I met some good people and while I didn't feel good lying about the circumstances of being there, I at least did not make up any sorts of stories as to why I was there (I just sat quietly listening to people talk and declined to share when asked).

The attendees weren't merely there for alcohol...it was basically a substance abuse support group in general - due to my age, people naturally just assumed I had gotten caught with pot or something and so was ordered to attend.

Honestly though, the last time I drank I ended up passed out on someone's lawn a couple blocks from my house, not knowing how I got there, what happened to the friend I was with, two of my car's tires blown out, and, as it happens, that was arguably not the worst of my blackouts this past summer, but it was strike three, and a wake up call.

That was a few weeks after I went to the meeting and afterward told myself I can drink responsibly.
