This is ridiculous.

I believe Chris has intentionally tried to make it look like I recovered the account in an attempt to scam me or forcefully return the account as he immediately attempted to sell it back to me.

I knew when he was contanting me that he attempted to scam so I made sure to document eveyrthing that happened when he supposedly 'lost the account'

It's not possible for anyone else but me to recover the account as it was made on my PC and I am the original owner. The only way is by someone exploiting Chris or gaining the login details from Chris' side.

Chris contacted me at 11:28am saying he lost access to the account.

I immediately responded with offering to assist.

I went to do a password reset to see what the current email was set to on the account. The email was neither mine or Chris' as he said.

I made recovery request at approx 11:55am and was speaking with Chris through the whole process. He had to go to bed.


The request was accepted at 2:40pm

I changed the password and reclaimed the account immediately. @2:50pm

Spoiler: I logged into the account on the website and it looked like the this. No display name set with authentication on.

I disabled the authenticator @2:55pm

I then tried to log on to the account @2:56pm however of course I could not as there is no name set on the account for some reason. I dont know how there could be no name set - I have never seen this happen before.

The account remains in the same status. I have not changed the name and will not change the name to prove I have not logged into the account. I will return the account to Chris in the same state when he is next online.

I also believe the above statement is extremely unfair to me as a seller as it is suggesting that a buyer can change their mind whenever they want to return an account.

I interpret this as as saying that I could go and buy any Runescape account I want now and a week late if I 'don't feel the account is safe to play on' I can just make a report and force the seller to refund me. How can I ever believe I have sold anything then?

This I believe is extremely unfair. I can't take responsibility for what a buyer does when they take ownership of the account after I sell it to them. It's not my responsibility to make sure the buyer keeps the account secure which again I interpret that's what you're saying by this statement.

I have clearly done the best I could in this situation to assist the buyer. Even though I knew the whole time when he first messaged me that it was fishy and I was skeptical which is why I documented everything. It just makes it so much more obvious that he tried to make a 'private report' so that I couldn't have any attempt in explaining what actually happened.

I more then happy to keep assisting Chris as I did the first time but buyers need to take some responsibility. Chris was fully aware of this when he bought the account and acknowledged that he was buying the account, he would take responsibility of it when in his possession and would assist him if any issues which is exactly what I have done.

I understand your frustration @nevernotspurs - Sadly, there is no way to prove either side of the story, so the only logical outcome is to have the account refunded. Since @chrisx8x does not feel the account is safe to play on, you are to refund him and reclaim ownership of the account.

 

But in this case there would never be a way 'to prove either side of the story'. So everybody can do this with every account on Sythe. No responsibility required by buyer and whenever an account is sold the responsibility of the account is 100% on the seller and at any time if the buyer decides they don't want the account anymore they can choose to force the seller to refund.
By what you have said this statement would be correct and it means that in the rules the seller is always at the mercy of the buyer.

This is actually so unfair. This is not what is stated in the rules at all.

 

Unfortunately, when it comes to account sales, there is no good way to handle it. There are several case examples of this which is what the rules are modeled around. We can never verify who is telling the truth in these scenarios, the liability has to fall somewhere in the trade. If we back the seller and make trades final, the seller is able to recover the account and have no punishment, the buyer loses here. There is an ongoing discussion about account sales which @Vlad and @Champ have brought up the situation that you are currently in.

 

1) I absolutely enjoyed pking on the account as I've wanted a Piety pure for the longest time. I don't have the time to build my own account really as I am working and going to school.
2) by no means do I mean malicious intent, but the account was recovered or hacked and items that I put onto the account were stolen. I had taken the dragon claws from my zerker and given them to the piety pure to sell for supplies and items.
3) you have repeated evidence that your accounts have been compromised and your claims are always accusing the other player.
4) two events happened that lead me to asking for a refund
a) the account was insecure I know I did nothing out of the norm that would have resulted in this.
b) the other player had an issue with your accounts security and you have had to recover other player's accounts as well. You said the exact same thing to that player that you did to me.
5) I find it a bit odd that after a week of me buying the account it becomes recovered/hacked? There is too much risk to put items back on the account if the account will just be stolen again.
6) I did not give you a bad name by any means, I informed the mods that you did help me recover the account, but I feel it will still be taken.

 

@nevernotspurs @Void's decision is final. But, as @Void said, we are currently in discussions / adding a new sticky to come to a median with both parties.

 

I still think that this outcome is ridiculous and can just be exploited every time.

Well I didn't keep the money that was paid to me because I didn't anticipate the fact that the buyer can get their money back whenever they please. I don't have the option refund Chris unfortunately.

 

Perhaps you can work on getting the money back, as you sold the account only a week ago. For now, you are banned for 3 months and will keep a permanent DNT.
